No way. For 20 games and a playoff run? No way.

I wouldn't trade Othmann or Perreault. As much as I like Guentzel, if I had to deal Othmann, I would focus on someone else with the 1st rounder if need be.

Vatrano will probably give you almost as many goals in a playoff year as Guentzel, plus he already has some familiarity playing with these people.

A little surprised at some of the reactions here. Not every guy we get is going to be a game breaker. Wennberg is a very useful player. Minutes eater, great skater, defensively responsible, never out of position with some skill and stick handling abilities. He’s the kind of guy you want in your bottom 6 for a playoff run. He will be light years better for that 3rd line than Brodz was. Brodz is a career AHL guy for a reason. Love the guy and his heart but he was actively dragging that line down. We will see a better Cuylle and Kakko because of this move. Faceoffs could be better and the point totals are not great, but Wennberg brings plenty of other positives to the roster. He also has the skating to bump up if a top 6 C injury happens.

Most importantly the cost was fair. A second, a fourth and no bodies We still have our firsts. Still have all our prospects. If Drury wants to get a big time 1RW this doesn’t stop him at all.

Overall it’s a good move. Fills a hole for a reasonable cost and doesn’t prevent bigger moves. It won’t put us over the top but won’t stop us from getting there either.

I don't disagree with anything you wrote Prod and have come around to view it as more of a brick on the path to being complete and will wait to see how Drury finishes it off before I judge. And let's recognize this very clearly, there is another big move coming. You don't add some extra value to the trade to get Seattle to retain 50% of Wennberg's cap hit if you aren't planning on another move to actually use the $2.9M in cap space we still have. If this was your move, you take all of Wennberg's money and move on.

Let's see who the RW Drury adds will be, that will define this trade DL, not the first brick of adding Wennberg.

Vatrano has another year at $3.65 basically replaces Chytil, I'd offer Krappo Sukko straight up and cross my fingers,. Guentzal in the last year of $6 mil deal and has been hurt since mid February by a hit from Mikkola, who was a nice grab by Drury.
