There's no reason to expect them to tell the truth this time, Charlie Brown.

I read several articles stating this was NOT ransom money and this unfreezing of Iran's assets was negotiated 8 months ago..the hostages were not bought for 400 million ...it was Iranian money...now you can and will find a spin article claiming it's a Democratic payola scam and the GOP will try to use it to keep their flailing party afloat and divert all the Dumpty Trumpty fell off the wall craziness back onto Obama and Hillary...Denny hates those two so they pop up often in his posts...I can claim what I read as the truth but if others prefer Fox or National Enquirer for their reading pleasure...they're going to get a different truth from the the NY Times or Washington Post.

There's no reason we should have ever unfrozen Iranian assets in the first place. So you're fooling yourself if you think this wasn't leverage used to get hostages released.

    Come on people...

LOL at people calling out gop spin articles.

Thats what the internet is all about. Both sides put out spin articles all the time. So some of those disputing reports would have been dem spins too.

Im really tired of this election and prople drawing party lines. Can it be december yet?

Right. We routinely send crates of cash to countries in a hurry, the same day we get hostages freed.

What was the rush? Why cash?

The administration claims the Iranians don't have access to the world's financial system. LOL.

I'm sure they know how to work a Swiss bank account.

Here's what's funny. Or really not funny.
Those media outlets reporting this as breaking news ... if you look at their archives from last January, you will see every last one of them reported President Obama's speech where he outlined the terms of the deal, including returning the $400 million in assets that had been frozen back in 1979. But someone started screaming "secret ransom" (who?) and all of a sudden this 8-month old item is "news" and "secret".

When the President of the United States announces something on national TV, it's really not a secret, you know.

400 million seems like a lot but it's only like $1 apiece, chip in your share guys.

It's generally what you do when sanctions are lifted....and I'm not foolin' anybody...just saying this was not purely about hostages...turns out it wasn't just about hostages...why wouldn't we use leverage to free hostages? We freed some of ours too

8 months doesn't seem like such a rush to me...maybe you're disappointed they didn't keep you posted all along...did you really think they'd release hostages before they got paid?

    You did say it.

"did you really think they'd release hostages before they got paid?"

    that's a ransom, by definition.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ransom

Ransom is the practice of holding a prisoner or item to extort money or property to secure their release, or it may refer to the sum of money involved.

Paying them ransom money with their own frozen assets is a stroke of genius...

Paying them money, no matter the source, or the hostages not freed. Ransom.

Shoutout to the hostages that are now home with their families...!!! Welcome home! Just know Denny would've left you over there and kept the Iranian money in that Denver bank.

Let's rephrase...letting them have their money from 1979 back , not paying them.

Denny would not have paid the ransom. I'd have strengthened the sanctions.
