<div class="quote_poster">Chutney Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Think of it this way Umair: if Boston doesn't do this trade, not only do they not get a big-time SG in Ray Allen, but they probably also lose Paul Pierce when he demands a trade. Sure this is a move geared towards contending now, but if they didn't make this trade they'd have to start a major rebuilding process. Out of all the superstar trades we've heard surround the Celtics, this one probably makes the most sense.</div> I never said it was a bad trade. I said I liked that they did this move to win NOW, but I also said that this trade will hurt their future.

Are you forgetting Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Kendrick Perkins, Ryan Gomes, Rajon Rondo, Sebastian Telfair, Leon Powe, Tony Allen, and Allan Ray. The last thing they need to do is think about their future because they are already set. Gerald Green and Al Jefferson have potential to be future All-Stars. Ryan Gomes can put up great numbers. Before suffering injuries Tony Allen was putting up good numbers. When given the minutes I believe that Rajon Rondo would do better at the point than Delonte West. They have plenty of role players and giving up delonte west isnt that big of a deal. The C's are stacked so deep in PG's that giving up Delonte won't affect them at all. I mean for God Sakes your getting back Ray Allen. A duo of Pierce and Allen immediately puts them in the playoffs...plus....you got Jefferson dominating the paint. The C's are solid.
Good trade for the Celtics (short term). Although, they're still not ahead of the Raptors (or the Nets for that matter).
Ray Allen can be around another 2-3 seasons. He's another sharpshooter who's a great complement to Pierce. These 2 along with Al Jefferson will be giving teams headaches.

If Danny Ainge doesn't make this move the Celtics do not get into the playoffs next season. I don't understand how you can be upset that you brought in a player who has averaged over 23 points the last the last four seasons. He averaged a career high 26 points a game last year. I do not think that there is a player in this draft outside of Durant that will ever average over 26 points a game. Surely Ray will not help your team defensively but teams will not be able to load up on Paul Pierce or Al Jefferson when Ray is on the court. I imagine that Ray will be able to average 20 per game for the duration of his contract (3 years) and the C's will be in the playoffs for two of those years. There is nothing short of bringing in Garnett that would have gotten the C's past the second round of the Eastern Conference. If Ainge would have drafted another young player by the time that he developed he and Doc Rivers would have been fired. At least with this trade you are not giving up an All-Star caliber player (Al Jefferson) to get an All-Star. I really do not like Ray Allen but your team has the potential of having quite possibly the top scoring combination in the league on the perimeter -- while keeping one of the best young interior players in the league too. I am not saying that the Celtics got the better of this deal but if the Sonics roster stays as it is now with an abundance of players that play the same position and a backcourt that could quite possibly be the worst in the league I would agree that Boston got the better of the trade. Ray Allen may be 32 but he has many years of good ball left in him. He takes very good care of his body and really only got the surgery during the season to ensure that the Sonics would have a better chance in the lottery. He was averaging 26 a game on a bum ankle--if we were in contention he would have kept playing.
I still can't believe that you guys got Ray so easily. I was just in my basketball training camp when I heard this and I didn't believe it before I read that it is official. Still, I think that the C's should use Allen + somebody to get a great center next to Big Al. But it sure would be interesting to watch Pierce and Allen playing together. ;D
