Brown has only played 15 or more minutes six times this season. In those six games, he's had performances of 20/4/4, 13/3/3, 15/2/3/2, and 12 pts. Also, in those six games, Brown has cracked Sportscenter's Top Ten three times. Brown's minutes varying is unreasonable and a result of playing behind LeBron James, as well as being on bad terms with Mike Brown. In any other situation, Brown would get playing time after those kind of results. With Cleveland though, he was benched for three straight games after James' return, only to resurface against the Warriors in 12 minutes, which he used to post the highest +/- for the Cavaliers that game. That's saying a lot considering that he is not even getting playing time on a consistent basis, is not usually a part of the offense, and doesn't have the confidence of his team, yet is still one of the best players on the floor when he gets the opportunity to play. Also, New Orleans' main team need that year, if you recall, was an athletic two-guard who would compliment Peja --- Shannon Brown.</div> This is supose to be based upon what the players have done for the season and a quarter that they have been in the NBA. You have 4 decent games for Brown in all of that time. That is not a lottery pick. The 2006 draft was conducted prior to the Hornets acquisition of Peja. Farmar and Gibson have proven much, much more in the NBA.

He started a quarter of the Bobcats' games last season, dropped 30 on Indiana, and although struggling from the field, had an overall very productive rookie year. The level of his play wasn't up to expectations, but the expectations were too high, and he still had a good year for a rookie, much better than most. Another thing about Morrison is that he's a very emotionally responsive player, who admittedly let the expectations and criticism get to him. That'll effect a player's shooting more than anything, and that was the most criticized aspect of Morrison's game throughout his rookie season. Now that the negative energy is gone and the spotlight is off of him, he'll probably have more of an edge to his game, like he did in college, when he received unconditional positive regard. You said that this is based on what players have done in the pro's thus far, but I thought this was supposed to take into account potential, like the '07 re-draft thread. Otherwise, it's just a ranking of accomplishments. My mistake on Peja. I mixed this year's draft up with last year's. Gibson is playing minutes that should be Brown's. The only reason he's playing so much is because the Cavaliers have no other legitimate point guard options, and Mike Brown refuses to play Shannon at the point. Gibson's play has been terrible for a point guard though, and his overall ppg average in general is inflated by playing next to LeBron. The only times when Brown's gotten a chance to prove himself, it's been with LeBron watching from the sidelines, whereas Gibson benefits by being in a glorified Smush Parker role, getting the kickouts from LeBron's double teams. He's a one-dimensional role player who can't do anything outside shoot the ball, which he's great at, but in the longrun, will only be useful if he plays next to a superstar like LeBron, as he can't create for himself on a consistent basis (evidence: his years at UT). Just look at Christmas' game against the Heat - 16 points, 0 assists, 0-0 FT. No playmaking, no penetration, just a bunch of hanging out on the perimeter and knocking down the looks that were created for him. Farmar's one of my favorite players in the league, so I'm not going to badmouth him in the same way, because I respect his game a lot more than Gibson's, but I still wouldn't take him over Brown. Looking five years down the road, I see Brown playing a much bigger role in this league than Farmar, and any other player selected after him in this draft. My picks are arguable (Morrison less than Brown), but at the end of the day, this is a theoretical draft, they were my picks, and based on my assessment of the players available, I thought they were the picks to make. Only time will tell if they were right, as these players haven't even played a full season and a half worth of games yet. 17) Shelden Williams
