I don't know about realistic trades, but I think we have two types of players we need to trade away - (1) players to trade NOW and (2) players to trade at the deadline. (1) Aminu and Davis should be traded NOW. There's simply no place for them in our line up, so any value they currently hold will diminish with reduced/eliminated playing time when the season begins. If their PT isn't reduced/eliminated it just means they're taking minutes from guys who might/should be part of our future. Get rid of these two before training camp. (2) Turner, Crabbe, and Meyers - two of the three (or all three) should be traded during the season once they've recouped a bit of their trade value. Trading them now would be selling low, and it's hard to believe that they could do any damage to their current value - all they can do is increase in value. By all means, if you're ABLE to trade any of them now go for it if the deal makes sense - but it's not as imperative to trade them before training camp. Meyers likely won't have much of a role (other than as an attempt to increase his value), but both Crabbe and Turner will.
The guy I want gone is Turner, but I don't see any plausible salary dump for him. I'd trade Evan Turner to the Lakers for Deng. Another awful contract, but I think he is a vet that wouldn't complain if his minutes were cut. He's can space the floor better.
Lavine is better than any of the guys we want to deal, the 7 pick is worth more than any of the guys we want to deal, and Dunn is a top-5 pick all of 1 year into his career. To compare any of our expendable assets to what the Bulls received from Minnesota is completely disingenuous.
Has it be posited that KP is likely loathe to make a deal with PA/pdx? Especially one that makes us better? Especially one that could be construed as being in our favor?
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q100 So that may not be the case with Mosgov, since the trade didn't actually put the Nets over the cap.
Crowder is only 27. What do you mean he is not the player he used to be? Maybe he never was that good defensively in the first place. I know we all think other teams players are better defensively than ours, but I can't help buy think that it is often exaggerated because we don't see them on a nightly basis.
Hmmm, i checked some "opponent scoring" stats at 82games: Old Jae: http://www.82games.com/1415/14BOS11.HTM Jae: http://www.82games.com/1617/16BOS9.HTM Hark: http://www.82games.com/1617/16POR9.HTM Crowder's defense seems to have gotten down by a bit, but he is still slightly still better than Harkless. Idk, watched like 6 games of the Celts in the playoffs, Crowder didn't look good or bad on defense. He looked 'ok', not the player who would stop Lebron (who gave Aminu kudos on his D), but also not the player who would play "matador defense" on regular starters.
According to Zach Lowe, the Lakers offered an unprotected 2020 first round pick to any team willing to take Deng or Mozgov and found no takers. Tells you how much it would probably take to offload Turner or Crabbe.
I am not sure how much that tells us. Deng is just not the player he used to be. Lot of mileage on those legs. Crabbe is 25 and can shoot. ET may be overpaid but basketball people respect his game. Mozgov.....not as much
I mentioned in another thread, that even after adding Collins and Swanigan, I'd still like to get Kyle O'Quinn, a cheap, veteran 2-way role player that can back up both front court positions. My real motivation is to try to dump a bad contract on the Knicks. Assuming they don't immediately blow their wad, they will have enough cap space to easily absorb Meyer's Leonard's salary in a Lenard/O'Quinn swap. We may be able to convince them they need another 7-footer who can shoot the 3 to back up Porzingis. With O'Quinn likely opting out after next season, he'd basically be a one year player to help smooth the transition to the NBA for Collins and Swanigan and cheap insurance against an injury (it seems like we can never have too many healthy bigs). He also makes Ed Davis expendable, who I would move for a future 2nd round pick. Where does that leave Vonleh? I'm not sure. Does Swanigan make Vonleh expendable? Not sure yet, but we'll know more after summer league, training camp and the preseason. Vonleh is still young enough that if he does get pushed out by Swanigan, he may still fetch something of value in return. BNM
If the Blazers are serious about reducing salary I would consider ET + 2nd for Rondo - Rondo has 1 year guaranteed and after that a $3m buyout - and they replace the one sub-par shooting 3rd ball-handler for another. Personally I like ET a lot - I think he will be a lot better in the 2nd year with some bigs that he can play PnR with - but if there is a real need to shed some salary - this is a move that is acceptable for Portland and gives Chicago another pick - for the upcoming rebuild.
