Huh? Roy basically ran point in Ass Clowns stupid ISO bullshit offense. Held the ball for 22 seconds and then either passed or shot. CJ moves the ball exponentially better than Roy ever did.
For CJ, I expect him to get to the line 2 or 3 more times a game as well as get another shot or two off a game. That gets him 24ppg. That's an all star player right there. For Dame, just a slight uptick in efficiency would get him to about 27/7/4 on sayyy 45%FG/40%3pt. He's not far from that at all and that would make him an MVP candidate.
45% FG is a massive improvement. Doubt he gets there, especially given how many threes he shoots. He was at 41.9% overall for the season. In his very best month in Feb, he shot 44.7% and put up 30/7/4
A much higher percentage of the possessions Roy used resulted in an assist than the percentage of possessions that McCollum uses. I recognize that a goodly number of people detest Roy after the medical issues following a huge contract, but pretending all he did was isolate and score is silly. He was a fantastic passer for a non-point guard, among the best in basketball during his healthy prime.
My view on this has nothing to do with his injury. Roy dominated the ball. In Stotts' offense the ball moves. You really can't compare it.
I agree that you can't compare their roles on the team. I do think that Roy had superior passing ability and court vision, though. McCollum's is improving--he could certainly get to that point.
Defensively they can both get a lot better and seeing as how they're smart dudes...they probably will. Passing can get better..limiting turnovers and getting to the free throw line more can all improve.
Dame is 90% to his ceiling, CJ 75% to his. Something like that. Dame might add 2-5 PPG, which is elite. CJ might add 5-10 PPG. That's my line of reasoning.
I'm actually expecting pretty exponential growth from CJ this season. Last season was his first time playing big minutes in the NBA. He is a smart guy and has sneaky good skills. Of course he is not super explosive athletically and he could have longer arms for his position, but I think he knows what he needs to work on and has been this off-season. He's going to take a giant step forward this year. That is just my opinion. I think he has some Curry in him. And if you've seen photos of him recently, he looks like he's gotten a lot stronger. That can only help him on defense and in finishing around the rim. I expect big things from him.
I see Dame at 80% of what he can be; he can finish much better at the rim and he can improve on the defensive end. Mac is at 65% of where he can be. In truth, this kid has potential to be great! Love how he gets to and finishes at the rim! Improve ball handling, moving without the ball and defense.
I agree on who can improve the most, but you are wrong about finishing around the rim. While Dame could certainly improve from there, he is miles ahead of CJ in that regard. It should be something both are looking to improve, and CJ the most. He looks stronger right now and that can only help him with finishing.
