Thanks for completely trashing one of my favorite songs of all-time VC B- Wow, this song just seems so depressing. It's almost up there with all that emo music. But still I couldn't be cold hearted enough to give it an F Static-X - "The Only" Invalid Video Link
Static-X - The Only - D Now I'm not a heavy music hater or anything like that, just the only Static-X song I ever liked was "Push It." They're just like every nu-metal/industrial hardcore band out there that you hear on the radio. The lyrics are terrible teenage-angst annoyance. Typical verse/chorus/repeat and then top it all off with a distortion mute pause ending like almost every single band in the genre does. They live off of an image and they always are the same. Wayne has big hair to go along with the band name, guitarist swings the guitar around his shoulder, etc. The song isn't actually terrible really, but the repetition and the feel that I've already heard this back in the mid 90's is enough for me to lower the score below average. New song is from Refused - Tannh?user / Deriv? Invalid Video Link The quality at times isn't that great and the video itself is pretty lame IMO. Just pay attention to the music the best you can. The reason I'm posting this is because I want to show what I used to be heavily into as a kid. Hailing from Ume?, Sweden; Refused broke up in 1998 after releasing their last album, which this song comes from called "The Shape Of Punk To Come." They helped me get away from the typical heavy radio stuff when I first heard them in the mid 90's and were a staple in getting me into much more diverse music just before discovering Coldplay. Some of Refused's older stuff is questionable, but as they got older they put out diverse post-hardcore music. This song was the perfect example of what good you can do with screaming hardcore music. You get the unexpected instead of being able to predict what is going to happen next. Most notable is their track "New Noise." Which had a funny music video to it because they poked fun at the wave of masked bands that were coming out at the time. If you check the video you can see that they don't look the way you would probably assume. Another reason I'm posting this is because I constantly keep hearing their songs being used on television lately. First during the Bulls game live, then the pre-game show a few days later and now last night during the opening of a hockey game. Like as if it were calling me back for another listen. Strange to see them getting recognition almost a decade later. Doesn't hold ground to other artists and bands I listen to more frequently these day, but they were different and clearly still blow away any of that nu-metal stuff coming out of the woodwork. Anyway, sorry for the long write out, just thought I'd put some interesting bits down.
C- It was just a little too hardcore and out there for me. The video was a bit weird like you said too. Ozzy - "Mama I'm coming home" Invalid Video Link This is the first song I remember liking when I was little and I mean little. For some reason, it just stuck to me....
<div class="quote_poster">M Two One Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">What did you think of the ending? Can't you give more feedback? That is the point of the thread.</div> Sorry for not giving much feedback, I'm in class right now and I'm trying to listen to it with headphones. If I get caught I'm toast Anyways, I listened to the end and that's how I figured it was out there. How do you go from hardcore to harmonica? It just makes no sense IMO. I just don't really get into this kind of music, just too slow for me and never picks up any momentum or anything. I also had a hard time understanding them, were they speaking english the whole way through? Sorry I didn't give you more feedback, I would give more if I could but this song just bore me to death
B I'm not really a big Ozzy/Black Sabbath fan, but that was a good track. Loved the instrumentals. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Nobody Weird Like Me Invalid Video Link
A+ I've actually got that video on my computer --- vintage Chilis, a great example of how great they were in the early 90's. If you track their progression, from the late 70's to the mid 80's to the early 90's to the Navarro era to now, you'll see that their sound has truly evolved more than any other mainstream band in the history of rock. If your car has a good bass system, definitely put on this track, it's got a very distinguishable bassline. The outro is also cool as hell, probably the best part of the song. I've always wished they made it into a separate track. New Song: Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing Invalid Video Link
Little Wing - A Jimi, one of my all-time favorites. The man who got me into classic rock. He was out of this world. Little Wing is a really beautiful and soulful song, you can really get into it and just feel the energy. I remember Frusciante said he thought it sounded like 3 guitars, and it does, was it really one guitar, or two? Anyways, amazing song. And speaking of Frusciante... John Frusciante - Murderers Invalid Video Link
B The song had an awesome meaning to it. Voodoo was right though, Frusciante's solo work is so much harder to get into than his work with the Chili's. John Lennon - Nobody Told Me Invalid Video Link

So true. What a talent. Great pick, I love the drums. Anyway, here's mine. Another weird Persian influenced selection... Dead Can Dance - Rakim Invalid Video Link
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Sasha:</div><div class="quote_post">Dead Can Dance - Rakim </div> B+ I really enjoyed the beginning intro to that song, but it kind of turned into something I didn't expect. Very original sound, but I guess I didn't like the vocals that much. Electric Light Orchestra - Showdown Invalid Video Link
C I love ELO, but I never really liked that song. It's just very dry from their other stuff. Rufus Wainwright - Complainte de la Butte Invalid Video Link
B Do you have the lyrics in English? The guys had a nice voice and the piano was nice. Where do you find your foreign music? John Lennon - Watching the Wheels Invalid Video Link
Rufus Wainwright is from New York, bro. John Lennon - Watching the Wheels - B+ Nice simple music with a lifting bass line that is simplistic as well, but not leaving out inspiration. Something to just sit around and relax, drink a beer. I love the majority of the lyrics that John wrote as well. He's a legend, plain and simple. I should note though that he was not my favorite Beatle, that would be George Harrison. New song is from the Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancing Invalid Video Link Thinking abour Rufus, here's a band who were inspired by Mr. Wainwright. Not my favorite, but my fianc?e is addicted to this song and it grows on you after a while. The video is great.
Scissor Sisters: B This song didn't really strike me upon first listen, but it does seem like it has growing potential (if that makes sense - some songs I think just have an intangible quality to them where the more you hear them, the more you like them, whereas some songs you just get sick of the more you listen to them). The keyboard is amazing though (not technically, but aesthetically). This is probably the fourth or fifth song I've heard from this group, and they really haven't had a terrible track that I've heard yet. Unfortunately, there's still a strong stigma in America (especially in the South) attatched to homosexuality that makes it awkward to listen to these guys in public, so for now they're more of a guilty pleasure band for me. Lennon: A - This song is beautiful and really makes me miss John, but I wonder if I just like it because of who wrote it. Objectively speaking, I don't think it sounds that great. Lennon's solo work wasn't nearly as good as his work with the Beatles. Credit Yoko for that one I guess. New Song: The Beatles - The Fool on the Hill Invalid Video Link
<div class="quote_poster">M Two One Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Sorry bro, didn't know you were replying as well.</div> That's okay... I'll rate yours... I like what I've heard from the Scissor Sisters so far and want to check that one out. Just give me a min., I'm going to run out for 15-20 min, but when I come back, rating that video will be the first thing I do.
B- The song was okay but the lyrics didn't quite make sense to me. Was the fool on the hill suppose to be stoned or what? I listened to the lyrics twice but I couldn't make sense, maybe it's me not being familiar with their work. I haven't heard much of the Beatles, guess I never really got into them. Memento - "Nothing Sacred" Invalid Video Link I saw this band at Ozzfest one year and liked this one song of theirs. This band is from Australia, so they have a bit of an accent, but it's hard to notice. It is a good song but never gets old no matter how many times you listen to it. Whoever grades this, tell me what you think of it.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting J_Ray:</div><div class="quote_post">Memento - "Nothing Sacred"</div> C Reminds me of System of a Down. I couldn't get into the song that much, but isn't because I don't like the sound. I guess the riff and the vocals really didn't stand out to me. Invalid Video Link
B+ It's a great performance, but it's very mechanical. There could be so much emotion in the solo, but Clapton bores. None the less, he's still a pretty damn good guitarist. John Frusciante - Going Inside Invalid Video Link
