Do You Realize: B- It's a pretty good song. I've heard it on a commercial before, forget which one though. I like the different sounds and effects, like the background vocals when they say "Do You Realize?". My Song: Slightly Stoopid - Sweet Honey Invalid Video Link
B- Tempo had me going for a bit, it's a great beat. What put me off was some of the lyrical slurring (not a bad style, but maybe not with this song), and the video could have been better. I looked up the lyrics and they are definitely good ones. Good use of the acoustic there, and I am glad they threw in an instrumental (can't really call it a "solo"). I really didn't like the video, a lot of the focus was sexual, which isn't bad, but given the lyrics, you'd want more creativity. Not a bad song, though. Oasis - Morning Glory Invalid Video Link
Oasis - Morning Glory B+ A bit repetitive with the chorus and guitar work, but that is what was intended and the song plays out very nicely. Definitely the better era for Oasis that's for sure. One of my fianc?e's favorite tunes. Both of us agree that the old days for oasis were grand compared to the current gen. My next recommendation is definitely not for the avant-gard hater. Voodoo Child and Mag specifically, you're both likely going to love this track, but of course anyone just go for it if you like. A bit of the same presence as Oasis' track. One of the darkest bands out there. If it isn't the video, then it is within the lyrics and always the music. Go to Venus' MySpace and watch the video below for -- Venus - She's So Disco
Wow, that's a great song, M Two One. I checked out their other stuff, wasn't really feeling it. . but She's So Disco is a nice song. The repetition is almost Moby-esque (in a good way). The guitar work was really nicely done, and the video was pretty cool -- one of those that you think about until it hits you. I really love hearing guitar picking, that was awesome to listen to in the beginning. B+ Only because I hate quick, choppy endings, which this unfortunately had. A transition out, IMO would've fit the song/video a lot better. Had they just finished the song with the picking they did at the start, it would've been awesome. I'll just revive this thread, as it's a great idea. . I'll post another song after someone else.
<div class="quote_poster">Sasha Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Oceansize -- Ornament/The Last Wrongs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhSo0NHK5QM</div> B In all fairness, the song you picked, Sasha, didn't have that great of sound quality live. It sounds like it'd be a hell of a song in the studio though. I find that's true for a lot of progressive rock bands. The intricacies of the genre don't translate well when you have to convey the sound with crappy live equipment over hundreds of loud fans. Still, it was decent song with a powerful ending, as well as a talented keyboard player. New Song: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Taste the Pain Invalid Video Link
B+ I love 2:30 into it, the trumpet (I don't know my "band" instruments). I love how the song flows, and the lyrics seem pretty emotional. I've never heard that song before Voodoo, I haven't dived into the Chili Peppers beyond BSSM, yet. This is on Mother's Milk, correct? Is there a way you can hook me up with the album? Jack Johnson: Banana Pancakes Invalid Video Link
Yeah, PM me your AIM SN and I'll send it to you sometime. Banana Pancakes - A I fucking love that song. I've seen him live three times in the past year. I really didn't enjoy his music unless I was stoned before that, but after running into him at so many music festivals and stuff these past few months, I've really grown to appreciate his style. One of the few great accoustic players out there, a real departure from the typical "college rock." He's got a very unique vocal quality too. New Song: Velvet Undergound - Heroin (It's not a video, just a song linked to YouTube) Invalid Video Link
Velvet Underground - Heroin B You've got to love the VU, they're one of the biggest inspirations to any bands out there today, especially ones coming out of Europe and western Asia. This track isn't my favorite from the band, but it isn't much to frown upon considering the majority of the album's tracks are so stellar. You can feel a dark side to this track, which in turn reminds me of the style from Venus. New song Et? 67 - Quartier de la gare Instructions to listen: Click the link and then click on the track "le quartier de la gare" and then when a pop up appears it will play music. Just make sure you're listening to the correct track. Fair warning that if you don't like music simply because you don't understand the lyrics then pass the song and wait for someone else to give it a listen. Info: Et? 67 won an award as best new musicians of Euro-Asia 2006. That's a lot to go for considering that their album can only be bought directly from the band's small label distributer. Their self-titled debut album is genius.
A+++++ Best song in this thread hands down. Made me dance, haha. Plus, his voice is just beautiful and the emphasis on the words he makes made me shiver. Here's mine: Mew -- Zookeeper's Boy http://downloads.pitchforkmedia.com/mew-thezookeepersboy.mp3
Mew - Zookeeper's Boy A I love the downplayed heavy metal sound in the chorus mixed with soft voiced vocals it totally reminds me of old Japanese animes I watched when I was growing up. Only of course, more modern. The only thing preventing me from giving it an A+ is that it becomes a bit too repetitive, but that's not to bring down the song's value because it is unique and very well done. When I hear some more tracks I'll consider picking up the album. New Song: Michel Polnareff - Lettre A France (Letter to France) Amazing French artist who lived a tough life. He left to the US for income tax problems years ago because of his fortunes in music. He was being forced to pay 70 percent of his earnings to the government so he basically said, "screw you." This song was to basically say goodbye to his fans and fellow Frenchmen who loved his work. The lyrics are very touching. Along with Hendrix, one of my favorite older artists of all-time. Again, an artist that sings in French, but for someone who loves the old stuff I don't think it should bother you in the slightest. Voodoo Child, you should absolutely go nuts over this guy's music, he has such a strong blend of talents.
A I didn't understand the words (as they were in French, but the music was beautiful and you can hear the emotions from his singing. Beautiful song. Why was he being forced to pay 70% of his income to the government. New Song: Outside - Staind Invalid Video Link I know I'm one of the only Staind fans (along with Moo) on the board, but I find Aaron Lewis absolutely amazing. His lyrics, to me, are so deep. This song is so amazing.
<div class="quote_poster">Mamba Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">A I didn't understand the words (as they were in French, but the music was beautiful and you can hear the emotions from his singing. Beautiful song. Why was he being forced to pay 70% of his income to the government.</div> The French government has a high luxery tax. It is beyond rediculous. Also, I forgot to mention that he only returns to France to tour, but lives in the US still. If he would ever return to live in France, he would still have to pay and he's against that law. As I would be, wouldn't you? I'll have to skip Staind and leave it to someone else though. I'm not a fan anymore. I enjoyed their EP and first album, but their current work isn't my thing. I actually seen them live in 1999 during the Family Values Tour. They opened the show and were the best ones to play. Crystal Method was pretty cool there too, but their white light show can give you a major headache. Rammstein didn't show up.
Staind, I'll give a B+. The lyrics are good and his voice sounds great. I actually learned how to play that song on guitar (took me like 10 minutes). My song: Pantera - Floods Invalid Video Link I could only find a live performance, but the guitar work is awesome nonetheless. The outro and the solo is amazing in this song.
C+.The outro and the solo are the only parts in that whole song I liked. The rest sounded almost all the same, with no significant change. Invalid Video Link Jane's Addiction - Chip Away
A+ I've never heard that version before, but I loved it. What show was that from? Frusciante was great, but AK's vocals were off. It sounded like he got boired with doing the same old version of the song so tried to mix it up a bit, which is cool, but the way he did it sounded akward. The best version of this song is at Slane, especially the "oooooh" part towards the end (for lack of a technical term lol). New Song: Sublime - What I Got Invalid Video Link
I love the version at Slane, I believe this is from Olympia, but I'm not sure. That's what it was listed as at youtube. A I love this song. It's such a laid back, cruising song. It reminds me of a couple of summers ago, great times. I haven't listened to that song in a while. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away Invalid Video Link I know the song is overplayed and all, but it's one of my favorites. I've been listening to the CP's all damn day, they've been on nonstop on iTunes.
<div class="quote_poster">Mamba Wrote</div><div class="quote_post"> I know the song is overplayed and all, but it's one of my favorites. I've been listening to the CP's all damn day, they've been on nonstop on iTunes.</div> B+ Overplayed is right. I've probably heard this song 1,000,000 + times since it first came out, and that's actually not an exaggeration. The lyrics are some of Kiedis' worst. I know at that time, all of his lyrics were pretty shallow and were more humorous, sexual, and helter-skelter, but these were just trite. That's probably just my opinion because I've heard it so many times though. There are some lyrical verses in that song that I love though, like "There's a River born to be a giver. Keep you warm won't let you shiver. His heart is never gonna wither. Come on everybody time to deliver," which is a tribute to close band friend River Phoenix, who had died on a speedball overdose that he and Flea were both shooting up together when he O.D.'ed. The outro is also pretty cool - it's a quote of Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf." New Song: Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb Invalid Video Link
