The Red Bulls swapped their first pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft and allocation money on Thursday to Portland for US international Kenny Cooper, the hulking striker the Timbers trumpeted as the face of their franchise in their expansion MLS season in 2011.

After several weeks of rumors and almosts, the New York Red Bulls on Thursday finally landed their man in Swedish defender Markus Holgersson pending receipt of his P-1 visa approval and his his International Transfer Certificate, as well as passing a league physical.

Holgersson is expected to be an immediate starter in New York, either alongside or in place of Tim Ream, who is reportedly on the verge of transfering to EPL side Bolton Wanderers. At 6-foot-3, Holgersson has the physicality and experience to compete in MLS, according to New York GM Erik Solér.

Can Rafa's return help New York finally find their form?

Can Rafa Márquez work his way back into fans’ and teammates’ good graces?

On Sunday, New York’s controversial Mexican DP returns from the suspension earned by his misbehavior in the Red Bulls’ ill-tempered playoff series against LA last season, and his winless team could use some inspiration. Mediocre on the field and abrasive off it, Márquez was as controversial as any player in 2011, and RBNY’s home opener against the 2-0 Rapids would be a perfect time to let his skills do the talking.

Henry scores, injured as makeshift NY backline shuts out Revs

HARRISON, N.J. – It took a patchwork backline to do it, but the New York Red Bulls finally got their first clean sheet of the season with a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena on Saturday.

Thierry Henry scored his league-leading ninth goal of the campaign before leaving with a hamstring injury, but the strike proved to be all the Red Bulls needed.

New York came out flying offensively, capped by Henry’s delicate lob over Matt Reis off a ball played over the top by right back Connor Lade in the seventh minute. The Homegrown defender was one of three young reserve players on an injury-decimated Red Bulls backline.

    Recap:
RBNY ride Lindpere goal to 1-0 win over Galaxy

CARSON, Calif. – Joel Lindpere’s early goal held up as the undermanned New York Red Bulls beat the LA Galaxy by 1-0 at The Home Depot Center on Saturday.

Lindpere converted one of New York’s scant few opportunities in the match, but the visitors did more than enough defensively to keep the hosts off the scoreboard.

Bill Gaudette could start for New York against Seattle
    [IMG]

Now, he could be starting for them.

Traded from the LA Galaxy to the Red Bulls on Friday afternoon, Gaudette had his first training session with New York on Saturday morning and the 30-year-old participated fully despite having joined the team just hours prior.

If that was not enough of a quick turnover for Gaudette, him starting in between the pipes on Sunday against the Seattle Sounders (4 pm ET, ESPN, LIVE CHAT on MLSsoccer.com) might be. Red Bulls incumbent Ryan Meara is questionable for the match with a knock, leaving Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe to have to mull over starting youngster Jeremy Vuolo or Gaudette should Meara not be deemed fit enough.

Henry lauds newcomers Le Toux, Gaudette on NY debuts
    [IMG]

HARRISON, N.J. – The past 48 hours have been a bit hectic for New York Red Bulls newcomers Sébastien Le Toux and Bill Gaudette, but that did not stop the duo from putting forth solid debuts for their new club.

Le Toux and Gaudette earned their first starts for the Red Bulls on Sunday, two days after being traded from the Vancouver Whitecaps and LA Galaxy, respectively. And each played a significant role in New York managing to come away with a 2-2 draw against the Seattle Sounders.

The Frenchman scored the equalizer for the Red Bulls after they had gone down 1-0 on strike from Álvaro Fernández. Gaudette made a handful of saves, including two spectacular blocks in the first half, to prevent the Red Bulls from falling behind Sigi Schmid’s men.

New York Red Bulls sign Tim Cahill as Designated Player
    [IMG]

The New York Red Bulls have added Tim Cahill as their third Designated Player, the club announced Thursday afternoon.

The versatile attacker was spotted at the AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday after his impending arrival was rumored throughout the past week. The Red Bulls have now officially added him to the team, pending receipt of his P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

The 32-year-old Australian international, an attacking midfielder, has scored 68 goals in 278 apperances across all competitions for English Premier League outfit Everton, where he's played since 2004. He'll join Thierry Henry and Rafa Márquez as New York DPs.

HARRISON, N.J. – Tim Cahill sat in room full of reporters, fielding question after question about his move from Everton to the New York Red Bulls. A move that was formally announced on Monday and a move that Cahill said he had little doubt about making.

During his introductory press conference on Monday, the Red Bulls’ newest Designated Player said he joined the team from English Premier League club Everton with the thought that it will help him continue to succeed in his career.

    Recap:
Tottenham rally to spoil Cahill's RBNY debut, 2-1

HARRISON, N.J. – Tim Cahill made an immediate impact in his New York Red Bulls debut, but it wasn’t enough to help his new club see off Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs erased an early deficit, rallying in the second half to beat the Red Bulls 2-1 in a friendly played in front of 21,701 fans at Red Bull Arena on Tuesday night.

Cahill drew a penalty kick in the seventh minute that Kenny Cooper converted, but goals from Gareth Bale and Gylfi Sigurdsson five minutes apart saw New York lose in their marquee summer friendly.

Cahill scores first MLS goal, NY come back from two goals down

HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls were on the brink of losing their first home game of the season, but a handful of quality stops from goalkeeper Bill Gaudette and a late goal from Heath Pearce ensured they once more picked up points at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls rallied from two goals down to defeat the Portland Timbers 3-2 on Sunday, with Pearce heading home the decisive tally off a cross from Jan Gunnar Solli in the 83rd minute.

The win improved New York to 13-7-6 and put them two points behind Sporting Kansas City for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, while it kept Portland at the bottom of the Western Conference at 5-13-7.

Red Bulls escape Kansas City with a point, thanks to Kamara own goal in 1-1 draw

Despite being outplayed, despite not getting an actual player to place a shot on goal and despite playing without Thierry Henry, the Red Bulls managed to leave Livestrong Sporting Park with a point on Sunday night. Sporting Kansas City forward Kei Kamara scored two goals -- one for each side -- as the Red Bulls earned a 1-1 draw in Major League Soccer action.

    Recap:
Henry's magical night lifts Red Bulls past TFC

HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls got the three points they needed, and it took another strong performance from Thierry Henry to help make it happen.

Henry got the Red Bulls back to winning ways on Saturday night with a three-assist, one-goal outing in a 4-1 win over Toronto FC that was closer than the score indicated. New York fell behind early, but Henry’s heroics inspired his side to a much-needed victory in front of the sold-out crowd of 25,017.

The win puts the Red Bulls one step closer to reaching the postseason, as they now sit in second place in the Eastern Conference with three matches remaining in the campaign.
