I don't understand that at all. 15.1 PPG to 21.7 can't buy you a single vote? What the heck were the voters thinking. At least he's still playing, unlike Randolph and Boozer.
Redd did get votes, but it wasn't much though. Michael Redd got 9 first place votes, 12 second place votes and 14 3rd place votes to give him a total of 95 points. I really wanted him to win it this year, going from a sixth man to an all-star is an amazing accomplishment. Zach did great this season, so I'm not necessarily disappointed that Redd didn't win it, but Redd coming in 5th place was a shock.
Actually, he did get a vote. He even got more than just 1. He had 9 1st place votes 12 for 2nd 14 for 3rd and a total of 95 points but I would have like him to have gotten more votes than that.
My take on the whole most improved award: Zach Randolph and Redd weren't most improved players, they shouldn't be candidates because of course the likely improved in the summer but their statistical change is due to minutes. Tmac going from Toronto to Orlando didn't jut improve in minutes but improved statistically. This year the only guy's I would say improved were: Erick Dampier James Posey Lamar Odom, the work he put in to become a PF was spectacular. Joe Johnson Brian Cardinal Mark Blount Q-Rich a little Flip Murray, he improved a little, but he was already lighting up in practice and summer league last year. Yao improved slightly but his offensive rebounding and blocking could have been better. Manu Ginobili Jason Williams Marcus Camby and Raja Bell The rest of the guys made slight imprvements, but just got more minutes or produced about the same with less minutes. Randolph, Boozer, Redd, Mason, Magloire, Dalmbert, Arroyo, Artest, Maggette, Dunleavy, Tayshaun, Gasol, K.Thomas, and Nene Rafer Alston I saw him doing this his last few months in Toronto. and.... Richard Jefferson became a worse rebounder and he improved his scoring because he got a three point shot and became a better free throw shooter, but his improvement wasn't anything big. Stephen Jackson had no improvement but his minute and his scoring, and that was due to him going to Atlanta where he got more shots.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting gmanspack:</div><div class="quote_post">Improving in the Summer is still part of the season, doesn't matter when you improve</div> Huh? I don't think anyone said it wasn't, where did that come from. I also don't know where you heard that he got no votes. I'm glad Kirilenko got voted for, especially Odom, they've really brought out his true game in the Heat, same goes for Cassell in the Timberwolves. They've always been good. I think they felt the same could be said for Redd, he just wasn't played, he deserves it as well, I wanted it to be a CO-Award. Thing is, it isn't, they must've been looking at it from an overall impact or team improvement stand point.
I agree with Og15, the improvement of Micheal Redd was kind of expected. Everybody knew that he was going to put up big # once Ray Allen & Sam Cassell was gone. We seen the improvements of Micheal Redd all last season. When Ray Allen was injured those games before he got trade for Gary Payton, Micheal Redd would start & put up big #. The main reason why the Bucks let Allen & Cassell go was to allow a guy like Redd to get increased minutes because they knew he was ready to become a serious player in the NBA. Its hard to get alot votes for most improved player when alot of people are expecting your # to go up before the season even starts. But that takes nothing away from what Redd has done this season.
The full standings weren't out when I posted this, only the top three, it stunned me that Posey was 3rd over more deserving Redd, Kirilinko and Odom
