Cam looked hot in his debut. Nailed some triples, played some D, threw some dimes, grabbed a couple boards. I think Reddish's game might already be a step ahead of certain highly prioritized Blazer youngsters.
I've always liked Reddish. Our more nurturing environment might do him (and us) some good. Could've used 10 more minutes from him in that OKC game.
portland trail blazers cant sign big free agents, so you either draft talented players or get them through trades (cause they didnt succeed with their teams and theyre willing to part ways with them) cam reddish should be given every opportunity to thrive here, its really a low risk-high reward move, kid is talented, no doubt and some players just need confidence from the head coach, right system, environment etc hes only 23 yo, he could be one for the present & future if everything goes right and hopefully it will... these opportunities dont happen often, make sure you do your best to get this kid to live up to his potential
Stream doesn't start until over 4 minutes in, but Billups' comments on Cam say a lot. I think he'll be great for him, but it's up to Cam to listen. https://www.youtube.com/live/mfHSFMxxbKU?feature=share
If he proves it to the organization it really was all about the situation for him and that’s why he hasn’t succeeded until now, you gotta keep him around. Like you’ve said, we don’t ever get big time free agents, and until recently, we’ve never been high enough in the draft to actually get any high-potential prospects. If we get the Cam that we saw last game consistently and can keep him for around $8m/year, he’s worth the investment. I’d certainly rather have Reddish at that salary than Barrett at his salary over the next four years.
This is all so familiar. Portland gets a player off someone else’s scrap heap and we all start fantasizing about how he was a steal. Portland is the third destination for Reddish already. He’d been sitting at the far end of the Knick’s bench since December. There is a reason for that. I’m sure Reddish will be fine, but he’s no difference-maker. He’s sort of interchangeable with all the other ho-hum players who move through the revolving turnstile in Portland.
I think we saw a pretty full picture of Cam's game last night. Really smooth and rangy mover. Good getting through screens, has the length to be pretty disruptive on D. But we also that his feet aren't very quick, strength is an issue and not the most physical guy to begin with. Some mental gaffs off the ball and not a good defensive rebounder. Offensively he's kind of weird player. Talented, but his skill and tools don't make his best role very clear. Not really a pure shooter (not great off movement or shooting with speed) or a guy you completely trust with the ball in his hands either, but can do a little of both. All that said, I like the deal. Cam was worth the flier and getting a likely first for a next year FA that was imo a fringy starting level guy is solid value.
the Knicks have 10 million Power Forwards. Cam probably got lost in the shuffle, because Coach Thibs couldn't see Reddish at the end of the bench.
Thibs wasn't a huge Reddish fan because he wasn't consulted on the trade when Cam was brought in. Apparently, he took it as a bit of a slight, which is why maybe he took seemingly many opportunities not to play him.
The potential is there. This team has done a nice job of developing players. Dame is a 1st class leader, who cares about the development of his teammates. If Reddish puts in the work, the Blazers might be able to unlock the key to his success.
