Putting in the work seems to be the issue. It's not an uncommon problem with really talented players. They just don't know how to grind.
What @maxiep said. There seems to be a work ethic level issue. Hopefully a new situation and structure can help with that, and not just that he is playing for a contract.
Denver is in first place in the conference. Who is the big free agent they signed? I keep reading that Portland can't sign big free agents, which I assume means every other team in the league has no problem signing whomever they want whenever they want.
Reddish has been benched and dumped by two different teams. It's time for this dude to engage in some hard introspection and not blame others for his failures.
I'm happy with getting Reddish because of his size, athleticism and obvious talent. It's a low risk / potentially high reward acquisition. I've already allowed myself to imagine Shaedon and Reddish becoming elite players alongside Dame and maybe Grant and Ant if they are still here.
I expect Reddish to struggle, but that come from behind block under rim and the steal, then assist, when he could have taken his own shot were signs that he could be a nice contributor.
Here's my two-game evaluation of Reddish: -- He plays lackadaisical in some ways. Not sure if he's lazy or just so unsure of what to do that he doesn't commit and go all out. -- He has a lot of athletic and offensive tools but doesn't seem to have a good grasp of how to put them all together. -- He struggles doing the little things. Just on the basis of his athletic ability, he could score 8 points per game with opportunistic cuts, running the break well and getting offensive rebounds and putting them in or getting to the line. He seems a bit too into the idea that he needs to make big plays and doesn't understand the value of developing the smaller ones. He looks to me like a potential Maurice Harkless with vastly greater upside. Even if he just turns into Harkless, that's not a bad thing, but Mo eventually embraced that not being a star offensive player didn't mean he couldn't be a good contributor. Reddish's all-around game seems to decline if he doesn't get off to a good groove offensively from the start.
Agreed on all points. Even though he had a much better game than Thybulle this game, I’m still sticking with Thybulle if we had to choose between the two.
Me too. And it's not necessarily a knock on Cam, I think he has the potential to be a decent starter (10-14 ppg), but the chance of him becoming another in the long line of journeymen nba players is bigger. I think there's a reason why, as a lotto pick, he's already on his 3rd team. And it doesn't help that he's missed almost an entire seasons worth of games throughout his career (74 games missed or DNP in 230 games possible, or an average of about playing 58 games a year). Full disclosure, I think Matisse averages about 68 games a year played...
