He plays at a position where we are loaded. Really starting to talk myself into Ryan Anderson instead. Am I way off here?
Idk, mentioned before that it just depends on whether you think last year was an off year or the start of his decline. He’s had a lot of injuries and is an old 31 imo.
I like keeping a roster spot open. And two minimums would only increase our repeater tax bills. But sure, why not? Already have the highest payroll in the league. SJAM?
They could just waive one of their vet minimum guys if a roster spot was needed. Anderson's contract could be non-guaranteed until January 10th as well. He might have to take a deal like that unlike Korver who will have his pick of teams.
We’re already down Nurkic, I’d be surprised if they went into the season with anything but a 15 man roster. Clearing roster spots won’t be a big issue either as Portland will be loaded with expirings, both big and small. As for the tax bill? Let the person signing the checks worry about it.
I think the weirdest thing for me is that we now no longer possess what I consider to be "bad contracts."
Dame/ Simons CJ / Baze / Trent Hood / Hezonja / Korver/ Little Collins / Anderson / Tolliver Whiteside / Skal with Nurk in waiting. That PG spot looks empty.
Dame, CJ, Simons, Hezonja can all handle the ball. So can Bazemore. If they really wanted depth they could use their final two way on a point guard. personally I’m not on the Anderson train, but I also wouldn’t mind if they skipped adding another point guard.
Ya, I'm increasingly becoming more interested in adding skills rather than positions. Think we have everything covered with good depth except for: 1. steady passer who can lead the bench offense (it's not Simons) -- a Monte Morris type. 2. deadly 42%+ 3pt shooter who can space the floor for 15 mpg. 3. rebounding until Nurk returns. Whiteside is elite, but everyone else is poor. Anything else? We need two players to cover all these three things. I really don't see why we bothered with Tolliver tbh. Not sure what he brings over Layman.
Tolliver's been a 39% 3-point shooter over the past 6 years, with a 75% 3pa rate. Neil views him as the solution for your item #2.
Ya just saw that-- the attempt rate from 3 is insane. Guess that rules out any potential interest in Ryan Anderson.
Trey Burke's been mentioned in here a couple times--he seems like a perfect 3rd PG. Experienced but not old. Good assist/turnover figures. Decent (but not great) 3pt shooting. I think if I had to pick one of the vet min PG's out there, he'd be the one I'd go with.
It's just crazy how things workout. 2-3 yrs ago, Hezonja and Hood were like at the top of our potential future wing additions list. Same with Whiteside @ C.
