Overpaying for a Batum cripples the team's future. That's a bigger risk than letting his inconsistent production walk.
The difference between his worth (8-9mill per year) and what any team might offer for him to fuck us over (10-11 a year) isn't enough to cripple us. That's just hyperbole.
I see Batum as a better Shane Battier; A 6th man. He really didn't impress me this year; very inconsistent. But when he was good (like a roleplayer should be) he was good. Mainly for his defense/shot blocking from behind hustle. I dont see him as a solid offensive threat night in and night out. But again that may change once we get a better point guard and a better offense, so I'll reserve the right to change my opinion.
