Ya, luckily my daughter's club team has been practicing for a month. She is getting in some good training and if they cancel HS season, her club team will pick up and possibly still play games, but this is HS......this is what we always were looking forward to when she first started. She's 4th generation at her HS, so it has a special meaning to us in the family.
Ya, that sucks for all those seniors last spring. Especially the athletes who lost their last season. Our daughter is just a sophomore, but still bummed.
Indiana Student and Teacher Diagnosed With COVID-19 on First Day Back to School https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/i...day-back-to-school/ar-BB17qne9?ocid=Peregrine
My great nephew just moved out of Indiana. Oh happy day. He got a full ride on a basketball scholarship to Cal Poly. He's a B+ student. He once overheard a conversation between his high school principal and a girl who was sent to the office for saying derogatory things to a Black student and using the 'N' word. He overheard the principal tell the student that he agreed with her but you can't say it in public. That tells you a lot about Indiana where they also don't like homosexuals for God knows why. It's a sick state and should be quarantined.
Just saw the updated Oregon High School sports schedule. Winter sports Jan-Feb, Fall March-April, and Spring May-June. http://www.osaa.org/today/article/1...yp_3mdw5thHMZNciI9eLVXf4qIws9-aX5SU5FdysFrNiI
Yeah it has definitely put a crimp in high school sports and for many, that's the end of their sporting career. I remember my daughters senior year she almost missed her soccer season as in August she was diagnosed with a tumor in her abdomen. Her doctor got her into surgery right away and he told us depending on where the tumor is at and what it might be attached to would determine how he was going to be able to remove it. Fortunately he was able to make a less invasive incision and remove the tumor so recovery time was much shorter. If it required a larger vertical incision her season was over. When all was said and done he pulled an over 10 lb. tumor out and she was back playing her first soccer game 10 days later and was able to complete her senior season where she was all PIL and 3rd team all state. Fortunately your daughter is only a sophomore so she will still have 2 more years if no season is played, but it's still tough to miss any part of a season.
That's some pretty short seasons in order to complete league play and all playoffs. Some players will be going from one sport to another and on to the final sport without any rest in between.
Unfortunately, for my daughter‘s soccer team at Grant, their 7 best players play club ball all year other than the HS season in the fall. They will hopefully be in the middle of their club season in the spring. So in soccer at least, high schools will be rolling out their JV teams basically. But this will affect/effect everybody, including power houses like Jesuit. Some random schools that don’t have those next level players might just end up crushing it.
Yeah, it was probably my worst 4 or 5 days and 6 hours of surgery before it was out. The doctor mentioned that he was almost 100% sure it was benign but they sent it out for an biopsy and even those 6 days waiting for the test results were hard. Nice thing is, it all worked out fine and she was able to play her senior year.
Do you think they won't be able to do both? MY daughter stopped with Club soccer last year because she was involved in to many other activities in school, but with the club games on weekends and school during the week, I would think they would work something out. I know the clubs over here worked with the schools in the past. Mine is going to be a junior this year so she still has the dream of playing beyond high school so needs this year to contact colleges.
I think in the scenario that is laid out for each season of sports and the shorter time to finish a season I see high school having to play games on weekends also and then you have the conflict of practices although club practices often start 5 or later while high school is after school. There were times in winter club soccer my son was going from playing a basketball game and then I would have to drive him straight to soccer practice that often didn't get through till 9 and he practiced in Hillsboro Stadium and we live near Mt. Tabor. Add that all up and then toss in school makes for a busy schedule
We were doing that in Middle school with my daughter. Made for some late nights. We only had to drive drive from Bend to Redmond. Of course my daughter is a goalie which added extra practice in each week. I know the other girls on her basketball team didn't appreciate it because as soon as any of them started complaining their coach would remind them that my daughter had to go to soccer practice as soon as they were done. That usually stopped the complaining. I guess it will depend on if the schools are scheduling games on weekend or not. Going to be interesting for a lot of kids.
`They might be able to play for both, but that would be 7 days and nights a week. As far as playing in college...... the scouts come to her club practices, games and showcase tourneys, not really HS games. It’s going to be interesting what happens. Good luck to your daughter, I’d love to hear how her season and recruiting goes.
My daughter has some big goals for College, she is looking at Stanford, Hawaii and a couple others schools., Not sure she is good enough to play goalie at that level, but will always support her in all her dreams. Sounds like your daughter is one year behind her so hopefully will go smooth for her. Will be interesting and fun to compare their experiences.
Yes, she is entering her sophomore year. She has a list of her top 20 schools she is interested in. Trying to stay realistic, but cool to see how excited she is to go to that next level. During this craziness she has gotten invited to play in these charity scrimmages with all these older HS boys, college boys and some of the top HS girls in the state. She is having a blast! Just love how much she enjoys herself out there.
She should see if she can get a scholarship (I assume they offer those) to U of P. They're a great soccer school. Plus, it's close to home so you can still totally scare all the guys who will be interested in her.
