This guy has 7 suggestions: including Jordan Bell, Kyle O Quinn, Justin Patton and John Henson and Skal. https://www.nbcsports.com/northwest...s-trail-blazers-could-target-jusuf-nurkic-out
If vets are an option I would also like Tyson Chandler. Whoever we bring in isn’t gonna play much but he’s good in the locker room, has played in Stotts system and has playoff experience so he’d be good insurance even when Nurkic returns
Any player out there not on a roster NOW, isn't good enough to play enough minutes at backup PG. Strike that....I'd let Jamal Crawford and Isiah Thomas be our backup PG and that's it.
Did anyone see where Marks said this: If this is true, this is HUGE. Portland could actually sign a guy to a Min contract without going over the cap. Skal would be my first choice, with trying to sign Patton to a 2-way contract. I'd also cut Dame's cousin & sign Elie Okobo or Louis King to a 2-way contract as well.
Or they could just make a simple trade like go get Tim Frazier for a second round pick or something. A veteran backup PG who can play a few mins and is loved by Dame and CJ and knows the system. Crazy thought I know
I'd be fully on board with starting Trent at 3 and sliding Jones and Roco up to 4 & 5. Play small, see what happens. I could also see starting Nas in a Vonleh-style role.
My order of preference for non two way free agents 1. Mahinmi- can defend bigger centers. Averaged 20+ minutes last season. 2. O’Quinn- another guy to throw at bigger centers. Also a good passer. 3. Ilyasova- could probably play center in small ball lineups and space the floor. 4. Chandler 5. Dedmon Justin Patton is pretty intriguing, but he’s still eligible for a two way. He’s more of a developmental project. Same with Rabb. In the end it’ll probably be Skal or Tolliver lol. Would be so predictable
I'm not saying that's wrong, but I'm skeptical what he's talking about are the bonus clauses in Nurkic's contract. The CBA gurus can correct me if I'm wrong, but when Nurk signed his contract, the bonuses were considered "unlikely to be achieved" and didn't count against the cap. He hit the marks in his first season, so the bonuses became "likely to be achieved" and counted against the cap. But he didn't reach the incentive thresholds last season, so those bonuses bounced back to "unlikely to be achieved"....if I'm reading the CBA correctly. That would mean they don't currently count against the cap so they couldn't be subtracted from the cap read this: "All performance incentives are re-evaluated at the start of each season to determine whether they should be classified as likely or not likely to be achieved3" http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q74 not saying I'm right on this...just suggesting that maybe Marks is wrong
That's what I was thinking... I thought that any/all his possible bonuses were already discounted from the salary calculations. That's why I was surprised to hear that reported & wanted to see where Mark's said it
I have espn+ (I’m rich, chill) and haven’t seen him mention it anywhere. This is the closest thing I found on twitter, but it doesn’t dive into anything. Maybe he said it on tv, but yeah I don’t trust any blazers edge dork. edit: just noticed it says we’re 1.87m under the tax.
