"I just know I can control what I know and how my mindset is," Towns told GQ. “I’ve said I want to do great things in Minnesota and nothing in my mind has changed that. They’re the ones with the cards. They’ll let me know how they look at me in my eyes and that’s where we’ll go from." Towns concluded: “I’ve been in Minnesota so long, anything’s possible."
I spoke to someone in Minneapolis this morning, and they are saying KAT is very likely gone. In fact, they are resigned to the idea that he most definitely won't be back.
You're saying will not be back for the '23-'24 season? (So he's traded in the next 3 months?) I don't especially love KAT, but I think thats a risk you take if the price is cheap. Id rather have KAT over Ayton any day of the week
Ironically, with all of this KAT talk, Dame in Minnesota really makes them a big 3. Gobert, Edwards and Dame is interesting
I guess I wasn't thinking directly from Dame. Through his agent or back channels. They clearly know how to do that.
So, Dame to the Heat, Herro/Robinson the the Wolves, KAT to....let's say Brooklyn, and Claxton/Simmons to Portland?
He's not going to be unhappy playing on a good team with a good locker room. Dame might have done an about-face and showed us he wasn't the guy off the court he presented to us the last dozen years, but you can't fake the effort and dedication he gave on the court. He's going to be a professional in that respect and, if he's in a good situation that isn't Miami, he's still going to give 110% every night and not going to think about "I wish I was on the Heat."
I think people rightfully have sticker shock with his contract. 23: 36 mil 24: 49 mil 25: 53 mil 26: 57 mil 27: 61 mil PO. He's gonna be between 35-37% of the cap every year until he is 33. I don't see how Minny can get positive value back for that deal given his lack of impact towards winning. This is Ayton, in contrast: 23: 32 mil 24: 34 mil 25: 36 mil Looking at these side by side, I'd rather have Ayton, especially considering he'd still be only 28 at the end of that contract.
That seems like a pretty bad shit-sandwich return to MIN for Towns. Is his contract THAT bad that they would have to accept a deal like that? Maybe it is. It would scary me to have his contract on our books even with how good he is.
Well, it's pretty much what Miami expects us to take for Dame, except for the fact that Minnesota could probably actually use Herro and Robinson. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that after last year's injury issues and overall subdued performance, KAT's trade value is a bit lower than Dame's (despite KAT being significantly younger)
Good creativity. Miami makes out way too good in that deal though, they get to dump Duncan Robinson contract and keep Martin. I'd instead do this trade, Brooklyn keeps Claxton but gives up two additional picks. Timberwolves get Martin instead of Robinson but only one lesser value 1st. Blazers also get swaps with Miami in 2027+2029.
