Maybe not... but alot of Jazz fans think they are screwed. They may not be able to unload Boozer... that's our roll of the dice that we hope succeeds.

After this is over we should offer a toxic contract to Sessions. ;)

I wonder who we (as a fanbase, not so much the team) are going to target next and over-react when he stays with his current team instead of signing with Portland.

Who cares. Let's just use our capspace to make other teams pay more than they are willing for their restricted free agents. ;)

See -- it's not imaginary -- it just drives up what other teams pay so we can piss off our players when we try to resign them for less than market. :ghoti:

That actually isnt' a bad way of "pritch-slapping" teams. Make every team pay for Memphis' mistake..I like it!

Utah would have a harder time affording to over-pay Millsap (even if they trade Boozer) than we do. Makes them suffer!

Toronto overpays for Hedo, and doesn't improve their team enough to keep Bosh from bolting! Zing!

Chicago has to keep Hinrich as the backup, and loses the cap-space they actualyl want next summer for Wade and Bosh (although they won't admit it). Zing! Fuck you!

Memphis somehow is tricked into taking Zachs' contract! HA! Well, that's kind of a double dose of punishment..

Lakers somehow get tricked into paying money for an aging nutbar, instead of keeping their own FA Ariza! Kudos! (although on the surface I don't see how Pritchard had anything to do with that, it just is funny to say)

In all seriousness here, I think one team that could come out of this the winner is OKC. If they can trade for Boozer for space (or just trash), thats a pretty decent team next year.

I think screwing Utah is just a side-effect. The main purpose is simply to take a shot at getting Millsap. Maybe all things considered the Blazers view Milsap as being better than Odom. And if the Millsap deal fails, what are the odds that Odom is gone in a week? If not they fall back on that.

I would be fine with that and then get them to do a sign and trade with Sessions and Kurt Thomas for Outlaw, Blake, + cash and picks. Might need to spice it up a bit or involve a third team.

Like this: (here is the realgm Trade with Ridnour being a proxy for Ramon Sessions).

Portland trades: Outlaw and Blake to Milwaukie, and Przybilla to Houston

Portland receives: Ramon Sessions (ridnour is a salary close match substitute), Kurt Thomas and Shane battier

Milwaukie trades: Ramon Sessions, Kurt Thomas to Portland

Milwaukie receives: Travis Outlaw, Steve Blake and Chuck Hayes (the need a PF) plus future 1st round picks from Portland and $3 million dollars.

Houston trades: Shane Battier to Portland and Chuck Hayes to Milwaukie

    Houston receives: Joel Przybilla

The money the NBA gave to teams probably factored into the offer. After the He-don't fiasco, I'm confident KP and Co. wouldn't put their necks out like this if they weren't for sure they would get their guy.

Now that the Jazz are desperate to move Boozer they are going to get a lot of low ball offers. They've been shopping Boozer for some time but turned down many offers because they didn't feel it was worth it. Now that their leverage is gone, will they take any offer?

That's the struggle. Are they willing to take virtually nothing for Boozer, if it allows them to retain Millsap?

If they're smart, they will. At this point, it's a straight choice between Boozer and Millsap (assuming they can't afford both, which seems to be the reported case). Thus, the reality is that "giving Boozer away" wouldn't be dumping Boozer for nothing...it would be trading Boozer for Millsap. Trading one power forward for another that is four years younger, cheaper, locked up for three more years and not significantly worse is a no-brainer, looked at in that perspective.

But if they look at it as giving up one asset for nothing in order to keep another asset that is already "theirs" (even though that's not the situation since they can't afford both), they may make a big mistake.

What teams are left out there that can simply take on a salary like Boozer's without giving anything up? And yeah.. Utah is screwed if they think they can anything of value for Boozer, even if it was a first-round draft pick or something.

I think only Portland and Oklahoma City. Other teams can take on part of Boozer's salary but would have to match part of the salary.

I thought Memphis used up their cap space in the Randolph deal. I didn't know Sacramento had close to $9 million of cap space.
