Yes, there is a Vulcan Option where they can deem this contract as negative or positive to the bottom line of team profits as they deem necessary.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

I see this (usually "top-10") thrown around a lot, but I'm not convinced... Somewhat in order:

    LeBron
    Kobe
    Wade
    Garnett
    Paul
    ---
    Duncan
    Howard
    Yao (when healthy)
    Nowitzki
    Parker
    Gasol
    Bosh
    DWilliams
    Ginobili
    Billups
    Pierce
    Nash
    Shaq
    Carmelo

I would say the top-5 are pretty well established, but there are at least 10 in that next group that are arguably all on Roy's level. Roy probably gets a "potential" edge when factoring in youth, but it's a stretch to say that he's undoubtedly at the top of that list already. Top-20 is a safe assertion... But once you get down to that low of a cutoff, you're talking basically best player on the team status.

Get KG out of there, he hasn't even been close to Top 5 for quite some time

Says that guy with Felix Gaeta as his avatar.

Having anything representing BSG makes you infinitely more awesomer in my opinion.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

I'd say top five is certainly LBJ, Kobe, Wade, Paul and Howard (probably in that order too).

After that, you have a lot of guys who have been all-time greats (Duncan, KG) but are on their last legs. Some guys like Billups are having career seasons, and Parker is probably still underrated for all of the things he does for the Spurs. Add that together and seeing as Roy was 2nd-team All-NBA, I have no doubt calling him a top-10 player. I believe by offensive metrics he was in the top 7 or 8 for sure. Roy may not be a "lockdown" defender, but neither are Nowitzki, Anthony or a bunch of offensive minded players on that list either.

Roy is somewhere between 6-10 just about any way that you want to slice it, whether with numbers or just by how good he is and how much he impacts this team. I'll put those five guys above him, but not anyone else with any certainty. Outside of those five, there is no one that you'd be like "yeah let's trade Roy for him" without hesitation. He's that good.

Fantastic news! He's here for the long haul... Drexleresque I might say.

By midseason Roy will be the scapegoat. "why was KP so stupid to give him the max contract?" "Damn you KP for overvaluing your players" "Now that Roy has his money he doesn't try" "Could we trade Roy for Foye again?" "Start Rudy"

Gaeta did what he thought was for the greater good for humanity and acted accordingly. He could easily have been a hero if things only worked out a bit differently.

Oh, and congrats to Roy. Yipee.

eSPN says 5 years 82 million? Fuck they should have negotiated longer. That is a lot of money.

I'd argue that Garnett and Duncan aren't the players they once were (top 20 probably, but not top 10). Also, if you peek ahead into the future, you got Wade, LeBron, Howard, Paul, Roy and possibly Durant, Williams, Granger as the "next generation" of NBA Super-duper stars.

The only player after the top 5 who is better then Roy (assuming he is healthy) is Duncan. I take Roy over any of those other guys and I don't look back. It's not even arguable in my mind.

EDIT: OMG somehow I missed that you had KG in top 5! No way he's top 10 when he is healthy but he is nowhere near the Top 5 guy he was 2 or 3 years ago. I thought you had Howard in your top 5. I actually think after Wade, LBJ, Kobe and Paul you could argue Roy is a top 5 player. I stand by Roy being top 7. PER in this case is pretty accurate.

    Nice!

I hope Roy elevates his game to another level - $16m/per is pant load of money.

You mean he hasn't signed it yet? That means it's not going to happen. KP doesn't know what he's doing, I want results faster damnit! Bring back trade Bob.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Roy is number 7, just like his number.

Besides Lebron, Kobe, Wade, James, Howard, and Duncan to me, no one other player brings all other intangibles. Scoring, leadership, clutchness, and defense. Though Roy isn't the best defender he's made strides to get better and tries on that end(unlike offensive juggernauts in Melo and Dirk). Only other player I see that brings most of those qualities is Garnett and his best years are behind him.

Bob would have signed both guys and picked up Hedo and Artest by now.
