I agree, as long as it's the right deal. There is no point to overpay for a guy who will be a RFA next summer. If we can get him for a 5 year, $60M deal, then absolutely.
Re: aug 5th 2009 roy still not signed I have looked under rocks, and sticks, balls and anvils, but I still can't see gravity.
Re: aug 5th 2009 roy still not signed we really, really, really needed to know this. how will i sleep without knowing your opinion thank god you decided to make a thread about it, all eight glorious words.
Re: aug 5th 2009 roy still not signed if we all keep adding him to our ignore lists, life will be better on here
Going back to the debate about where Roy is among the elite players in this league, I think you have to give guards the edge. They are the only guys who can create for themselves and teammates without needing to be set up by a teammate. Howard, Duncan, Shaq ... all elite players, but they would be obstacles on the offensive side of the floor if guards didn't dump the ball down to them. That's why I think you see the Kobes, Lebrons, D-Wades, etc., get the play as the best in the league. And I think you'd have to put Roy in that category when you think about ability to score off the dribble, hit the outside shot, set up his teammates, and be absolutely clutch. I think Roy is top 10 in the league right now. No doubt in my mind. If he's able to add a defensive pedigree this season, he immediately jumps into top 5.
And if the team doesn't have the best record in the league on Dec 1st, or whatever arbitrary date he selects, he will crucify them. Even when he is patting the team on the back, he is openly looking for a place to shove the knife.
Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers Anyone who says this can go fuck themselves and find another team to root for. Like the Grizzlies.
Chad Ford with an interesting nugget of info: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4379864 And, Chad, "in principal?" Really? Edit: wait, is it supposed to be "agreement in principle" or "agreement in principal?" I'm getting confused here.
