I was always in the minority when it came to Wheels in that I really liked his daily sports talk show, especially the years I was in college driving around town working various jobs and he helped pass the time. I was never a big fan of his on the game calls but understand why people liked him. I was having a conversation about tv and radio announcers with some friends just days before he passed. They become THE VOICE of the franchise for so many, players come and go but the PbP guys are the ones that bridge those gaps. The thing I've found is that everyone thinks their guy is THE BEST. To Blazer fans Wheels was the man, while the vast majority of other teams fans around the league have no idea who he was. Maybe it's the line of work I'm in, or that my dream was always being a PbP guy for a team, but interesting to me to think about.
