Re: Robert Plant, Taj Mahal, John Hiatt, Eric Burdon (and more)...On The PDX Waterfro Don't miss Allen Stone. He puts on a GREAT show. http://www.waterfrontbluesfest.com/Artists/Allen-Stone Robert Randolph and the Family Band seem like they'd be fun to watch live. They always look good on TV. Man, I wish I was up there for this. I'd be all over this.
Re: Robert Plant, Taj Mahal, John Hiatt, Eric Burdon (and more)...On The PDX Waterfro Robert Randolph and the Family Band fucking ROCKS! “One of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time…” – Rolling Stone Magazine Saw him last summer at the Zoo concerts. A MUST SEE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2C3b1fmMmKM
Re: Robert Plant, Taj Mahal, John Hiatt, Eric Burdon (and more)...On The PDX Waterfro Man, I've seen Robert Randolph several times (Bonnaroo, Voodoo, Memphis, and NOLA), and I've never had a bad time. He plays the pedal steel guitar and plays the hell out of it. The whole band's great. I'm jealous of that lineup though, mainly because of Eric Burdon. I didn't realize he was still touring. I looked up the Animals on Jambase, and they had a few US dates, but they were all like California and New York... didn't see Portland or anywhere in the southeast on there for that matter. Is he touring with a separate band? I mean Chas Chandler's dead... BTW - This was the track that got me into Randolph back in '03, and it's still my favorite track from him. The bass line is funky as hell. Hard to believe that was ten years ago... seems like only yesterday I heard this one the radio. Re: Robert Plant, Taj Mahal, John Hiatt, Eric Burdon (and more)...On The PDX Waterfro I'm going to go see Taj. Awesome!
Re: Robert Plant, Taj Mahal, John Hiatt, Eric Burdon (and more)...On The PDX Waterfro I've seen Taj before, and it's definitely worth going to see, but expect a really big crowd, to the point that it's hard to actually see the stage unless you show up early, and expect a lot more performance from the other musicians and not Taj himself. Also, Plant's really into his new stuff. I saw Fogerty, and he played all of the CCR stuff after he played his solo stuff, but Plant's got a reputation for playing mostly the music from his new projects. Those are really the only reason I'd be more excited about Eric Burdon than Taj or Plant, but overall, it looks like a great festival lineup. As far as Randolph's pedal steel goes, here's the original pedal steel hit that I'm sure most of ya'll know well. Randolph just takes this instrument and brings it to new heights -
