When Trivium are signed to a metal label, marketed as a metal band and tour with metal bands, how can you say they are rock? Rock doesn't use double-bass drums in the drumming. Rock doesn't use heavy guitar sounds. Rock isn't about screaming. Trivium are not rock. They are metal. Indie is a sub-genre of rock. Originally, it meant the band was independant and pressed, sold and marketed their own CDs themselves through their own labels. It's not a sound or an attitude. It's a method. Bands like Foo Fighters (as were mentioned) are hard rock, which is bordering on metal but lacks some of the key ingredients that push it into that genre. Linkin Park's first and second albums were metal, or more specifically, Nu-metal (hip-hop influenced, drop-d tuned metal). They've evolved into a hard rock band with their new material. And The Gossip are terrible. For aband so reliant on bass-lines, it sure is some boring bass work and all their tunes sound the same. Plus that singer of theirs needs to keep her tent-sized clothes on.
