Yao really is fucking good. he is so fundamentaly sound. He does not rely on his size. No doubt why they call him the wall. He really boxes out, and sets great picks.

But why is he good in the NBA, but terrible in the Olympics? I don't understand it.

Olympics are weird. A guy like Carlos Arroyo somehow plays better than Kobe but cant find a decent role on any NBA team.

Paging Greg Oden: Channing Frye got a rebound tonight - and you didn't. :sigh:

I maintain that it is how the refs call the game. They allow a lot more physical play, and they don't coddle superstars. It was extremely refreshing to watch during last summer.

Hopefully Roy's knee gets better because he's not the same player. Aldridge has been carrying the team the past week or so it seems.

edit - Roy hurt his knee against Utah correct?

i don't hink it was Roy's knees tonight as much as it was Artest with the help of 7'5" wall.

Yao wasn't close to 100% during the Olympics. Remember he had a season ending surgery last year? Yao was one of the most dominant players in the preceding Olympics.

He did keep several balls alive for us, but I'm surprise he didn't get a rebound.

Shoot. I thought Portland could have played better. A lot of little things added up to put the game out of reach, but it would have been a pretty close game otherwise. Choking at the foul line, stupid turnovers, missed shots at point blank range (two by Oden, 1 by Batum), and of course, there were a few ridiculous fouls that cost the Blazers (and the Joel goal tending).

In a way, it all boiled down to Chaning French Frye, whenever Oden and Joel went out of the game at the same time, the Blazers lost ground.

I still think Nate is too careful with his center's foul situation. Tonight for example, they both ended up with 4 fouls. And we played French Frye for a 7 minute strech in the 2nd where Houston really grew their lead.

We have two starting quality centers, so Nate needs to just let them play through their foul difficulties.

Close game without the biased officiating. Przy and Oden both get cheap fouls early and get into foul trouble.

A throwaway game IMO. Houston didn't really turn the ball over and they got the edge on being physical from the refs. Then, when the calls even out, Portland misses their FTs. Meh. It happens.

    Focus on Memphis right now.

We don't match up against Houston. Period.

Our scoring comes mainly from the perimeter. Houston has the best collection of perimeter defenders/help defenders in the league, probably.

I think we'll beat San Antonio.

I think Houston is a bunch of over achievers minus Yao Ming. They are nothing special individually, but they do play some tough basketball. Kinda like a Jerry Sloan coached team.

I don't know. Ron Artest? Battier is a smart player that could fit into just about any team/system out there. Not to say he's a great talent, but he's a solid player who probably has been underrated most of his career relative to his value.

I agree about us not matching up well with the Rockets. They're the most physical team I've seen us play this season, and we just don't have that punch back.

I still wouldn't mind playing them in the playoffs, though. They don't have that star player that can take over a game by himself like a McGrady on the perimeter. I think we could beat them in a 7-game series with or without HCA.
