The tech and the out of bounds were dbad calls, I agree. I'd need to see that 4th foul on Oden. Contact in the post is called so inconsistently, and it really does go both ways. Throughout the regular season, Yao would get called for offensive fouls merely in response to something his defender did to him. It's something the NBA needs to do a better at.

As for Oden, he's been foul prone throughout his short career, so I don't buy the argument some are making that this is just favoritism towards Yao the "superstar". Oden isn't exactly a nobody. All things considered, the NBA would like for him and Yao to be matched up with eachother as much as possible in this series.

Durvasa -- at one point the Rockets fans were chanting Portland sucks. An insight on this? Just kind of curious. To me it kind of came out of left field.

I heard it on TV, but I wasn't at the game. I don't think Houston fans have any particular grudge against Portland ... just a highly competitive game and the fans needed something to chant I guess. To me, I'd prefer they keep the chants more positive -- "Let's go Rockets" or something like that.

No, it actually wouldn't be over even if Houston takes game 4. If Portland went on to win game 5 at home, would you then still call the series over because Houston would have a 3-2 lead? I don't understand this need by some people to call things "over" prematurely, just because the odds are poor -- it's neither insightful nor accurate. Portland has to win a game in Houston to take this series, period. They could have two chances to do that. It will be over when they lose 4 games, not before.

    P.S. Momentum is an illusion.

Lol I thought durvasa meant 24 minus 12 Free throws not 8, because I've known him for some time here and he doesn't make those type of mistakes. :P

Still, honestly it's not a big deal. I'd still take that in every road playoff game.

Yeah I don't really care for the "X Sucks" chants, unless it is some special circumstance I guess. Even then my team should just ignore the other team.

I thought it was pretty classless of Houston fans. But I'll chalk it up to the anger they must feel over living in Houston.

I thought Houston was a decent place to live in? It is the fourth largest city in the USA.

That call is so inbelievably bad. There's no defense for that call.

The worst part was that it was called right after those pick and rolls with Blake and the Blazers had had a few dunks in a row. It's as though the ref just decided that Oden is not allowed to play well, he has to come out of the game.

    Fuck you, David Stern.

Apparently the Rockets fans reading that think it was a make up call for Oden's continual mugging of Yao. And that the call was perfectly legitimate under the rules of the NBA.

Until the game can be called by robots, human beings have to be refs, and they have biases, vendettas, and prejudices, no matter what anyone says. They always have, and always will. And that is one of the reasons why the NBA will never surpass the NFL as the most popular sport in the country. Because of bullshit, starfucker calls like this one which can impact the outcomes of games.

There are things the NBA could do to make the situation better. They are:

Have two officials in chairs like the umps in Tennis, one on each side of the court. Their job is to call out of bounds, 3 seconds and traveling calls only. They are the only officials in the game that can make those calls.

Have two other officials. There job is to make all of the other calls, including personal fouls, charges and blocking fouls along with goal tends.

All ref were headsets that allow them to communicate with one another, but suppress all other noise. That way coaches and players could piss and moan to their hearts content but it wouldn't have much of an effect on the game.

Widen the floor by 2 feet, which would increase spacing and make certain calls easier to make.

    Fire Violet Palmer.

With the above you would probably get more consistency since one huge problem is all of the things each ref needs to watch for.

Having three people run around at ground level like chickens with their heads cut off trying to watch for everything is never really going to work.

Lol fucking terrible....pretty much sums up what we've had to deal with the entire season as well as in the playoffs...

Portland is too small of a market to make it any farther than the first round...

Go money machine go! LAL vs CLE for the ratings win!!!

Typical. Oden has inside position, Yao bumps him, grabs his arm and yanks on it - and the foul is called on Oden.

I can't believe Rick Adelman had the nerve to whine to the league and the press about how this series is being called.

Yao definitely forced him under the basket. Is that a loose ball foul? Usually, the refs look for that foul as the ball is coming off the rim. Oden got pushed out of his position as the ball was being released and before it hit the rim. On the actual rebound, it looked to me like Oden was out of position and mistimed his jump. But I wouldn't complain if Yao got called for a foul there. He did force Oden under the basket. The refs often let that go, but it's borderline.

And I don't know what you're looking at when you say Yao grabbed Oden's arm and yanked on it. Unless you think Oden's arm = the basketball. Unfortunately for Oden, he had his arm in the wrong place after Yao already got a hold of the ball, and he got called for the foul. When arms get tangled like that, the refs usually feel they need to call the foul on someone, and it usually won't be the player whose hands are actually on the ball.
