OT: Rockets were the late bidders for Amare

Adande says in ESPN's Daily Dime

Whoa, Daryl Morey's got balls. I'm glad this didn't go down.

Wow...getting Martin for Landry and then swinging Scola, Battier and spare parts for Amare would have been really scary. Especially since Amare has a mid-range jumper and likes to slash, which would complement Yao's low-post game well.

    PG: Brooks
    SG: Martin
    SF: Ariza
    PF: Stoudemire
    C: Yao

That would have been a nightmare to defend next year. Of course, Houston's defense would have taken a major hit by adding Martin and Stoudemire but I think it'd be worth it. Especially with a very good perimeter stopper in Ariza and top team defensive center in Yao on board.

Of course, the "one source" could have been a janitor and who ever knows if true wherther or not it was taken seriously by the Suns.

Sounds like BS unless there's a good reason the Suns don't want Amare to get a physical before a trade...

I could see how the Rockets would be scared off by the no-physicals clause. Battier and Scola are a big part of that team, and that pick from NY could be gold.

i would expect sign and trade opportunities for bosh and amare to be explored this offseason for the rockets. looking at the assets the rockets have now, they can put together a pretty good deal.

They could have obtained the 8th seed with that trade (Amare) - - - I guess they'll be settling for 9th now!

Yea but at the same time, that team would have been a dream to score against. I only see one defender in that lineup.

And why would it have been necessary to waive the physical anyway? They strike the deal before the deadline, and if Amare's all right, the Rockets don't back out. It sounds quite suspicious that they wanted Houston to waive the physical.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I mentioned the defensive issues, actually.

But Yao is an excellent defensive presence to anchor a defense, and Ariza is a nice defensive stopper on the perimeter. So at least they have someone to defend the opposing team's best perimeter player and someone to funnel slashers to. Considering the offensive firepower, that's not the worst defensive situation.

Ariza was the one defender I was referring to. Yao is not a good defender man. He gets a block here and there, but good defender? Nope.
