Gosh, and just think of all those posters that continually mock Olshey and he pulls this one off. Good solid acquisition that should help going down the stretch.
The Blazers will actually take on a bit of salary and up their Luxury tax charge by just a bit. Not a bad move, in fact a decent trade....but nothing that makes them a significantly better team.
I haven’t followed him at Cleveland because it’s really impossible to watch Cleveland but if he can show some of his best form from Utah days this will be a good move. Second round picks have little value, Stauskas has not been playing since his good start and Baldwin has not played here at al basically.
Looks like other teams were interested in Hood including the Warriors and Spurs. Feel even better about this trade knowing that we were able to trade for a player our playoff rivals coveted. https://bleacherreport.com/articles...rs-among-teams-interested-in-cavs-rodney-hood
I doubt we trade CJ but we’re much better equipped to lose him now than we were an hour ago. For this season at least.
Hood had to agree to the trade, because his signing of a one-year, $3.4M qualifying offer last summer with Cleveland granted him veto rights. He'll lose his Bird Rights in summer free agency, but his enthusiasm for joining the Blazers on a playoff push allowed for his approval of the deal, league sources said. Portland can still re-sign Hood using one of its exceptions. The Blazers are 32-20 and fourth in the Western Conference. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/25915855/portland-agrees-deal-cleveland-rodney-hood
Problem with Hood with the Cavs is he would either have a decent scoring game or he can't hit the broad side of a barn. Maybe the Blazers staff can change that. IDK.
Surprised Baldwin hasn't gotten more run in this league. He's the kind of guy the Warriors would pick up and make into a second uint star.
If he is a forward, I guess he will be our only forward who can run pic and roll; long time since Batum. Also like that he is good at scoring on cuts; doesn't happen much though.
Technically our 2020 pick we owe is one of those top-55 protected ones so we could still trade it with the opposite protection. It didn't end up being used here though.
Wonder what the immediate rotation is, assuming there isn’t another trade before Tuesday. Seems kind of cluttered. Dame CJ Harkless Aminu Nurkic Curry Hood Turner Collins Leonard No way Layman gets benched. Seems like there will be another move.
Very small sample size but I hope the Blazers see that cut percentile and encourage him to become a slasher when he doesn't have the ball, especially when in the game with Nurk.
Dame Nurkic CJ Aminu Harkless Layman Zach Curry Meyers unless Hood morphs into a player he has never been, looks like Olshey has managed to upgrade the 10th man in the rotation. It's something I guess, but doesn't generate much enthusiasm.
Decent trade for a solid bench presence talent but I really hope there’s another trade coming, like one that sends one of Nards or ET out.
