My bad. I guess your ardor for Morrison had me thinking you must have attended Gonzaga.

Private- or public-sector union? For the record, I'm for the first, but not the second. Private sector unions help keep wages at a healthy rate. The conflict between union and management provides a good equilibrium. Public-sector unions can help determine who's on the other side of the table through political donations. Given elected officials don't really have a bottom line, the healthy conflict doesn't exist.

It means if you make less, you'll be riding the subway for an hour and a half, each way, from the sticks to your job.

There are about 1.1M firefighters in the USA. Pay them all $100K and it costs $101B, or 1/40th of the federal budget. Though they're not paid for by the federal budget. However, the reality is only 100K of them actually get paid to be firefighters. Their salaries range from $30K to $50K. The max a firefighter gets paid is $65K.

There are half as many policemen. Top patrol pay is $60K.

So let's cut the budget anywhere else and quit lying about budget cuts affecting these guys.

The goose is cooked. Barring a huge gaff by Obama, or three crushing debates by Romney, Obama will have a second term.

What the hell is Romney doing? He can surely make his point without insulting 47% or whatever of the population.

He's betting that the American people don't want a cradle-to-grave welfare state and they want a return to an opportunity society. Let's hope he's right. If not, there's no going back.

Could be, but I don't see that this really makes much difference. The people who are "pissed" about this are the ones who weren't going to vote for him anyway. Romney's base agree with the sentiments he expressed.
