This bugs me. Of course the hope is that Rose will play this season. But why would you speculate about that now? This surgery isn't until tomorrow, when they'll get a look at the thing. Nothing about John Paxson strikes me as trustworthy when it comes to injuries. He rubs me as the type of guy who would gladly shave three years off of a career if it gave him an extra half season in a Bulls uniform.
Fans showed up late and bummed to the last game (the loss to Charlotte). That's a threat to profit. Say something to give the fans hope so they'll show up on time.
This would be good. I don't expect the Bulls to win it all with Rose back, but it would be a good sign to have him back for some playoff minutes.
Yah, I agree, organization wide. I also have become sceptical of "team rose" as well though, given the super cautious length of time Rose took to come back last time (IMO) and his "meetings and birthday parties" attitude. I can see why the org would want to set the expectation of Rose coming back when he's "medically cleared." At this point, the end of the Rose contract is in sight and as a fan I'd like to get a couple playoff runs out of him for the teams 100 million investment before its time to re-up (or not).
If Rose can go by the time he gets back, we could still make some noise. It will be difficult to watxh Rose have to readjust again.
While I'm glad to hear that Rose is expected back in 4-6 weeks, most of my fire for this season has petered out. even before Rose's re-injury, the odds for the Bulls were lengthening. As Bulls fans, we spent most of tbe post-dynasty era waiting for a superstar. The Bulls got lucky with Rose and then got unlucky with Rose. On balance, since there have been no championships, I guess they've been mostly unlucky. Those with their various agendas will place their blame as suits their purposes. I hope they enjoy it, though I'll never understand why they would. As for me, I've re-entered pure entertainment mode. This is how I watched the Bulls in the past couple seasons. I don't expect much, hoping for a fun game to watch and ideally a Bulls win.
Why do I spend the $150+ on NBA LP to watch almost all the Bulls' games? I love the team, not the owner or management. I take no pleasure in losses or players failing to produce. It's just so predictable that we won't win without taking some risks to improve our chances. I'll play these, pair of aces, draw none.
You hate Bulls management, but love the team. The team changes at the whim of management. Hence, you love what those you hate choose to give you. Your life sucks (of at least this part of it).
In business, there are labor-management relations. I side fully with the players (labor) and wish they could consume all of the team's profits if possible. They are the talent. The rest are greedy bean counters.
Not surprisingly, I spent my career in labor management relations...from the management side of the table. Unlike you, I never wanted the opposition (labor) to work for free...even if it were possible to do so. Absolutism is so silly.
David Haugh wrote a pretty great article about the Bulls setting a timeline. His point, which I think is right, is that even if it wasn't necessarily the team's intentions, management did Derrick a favor by setting expectations earlier. Rose's fans needed a timeline for recovery, or he was just going to catch additional heat. I'm still not sure I buy into setting expectations before the surgery was completed. With timetable, Bulls send Derrick Rose a message: It's on you
