According to today's New York newspaper...............

Orioles legend Cal Ripkin Jr. could return to the franchise as manager if current skipper Buck Showalter moves into the front office to replace Dan Duquette.

Thank You for the update Rick. Quit interesting, but would or does Cal want to Manage? It could make for an interesting experiment. I think Buck would be fitting up stairs.

Tho' it's really rare to see a HOF Player, who goes on to become a great or even good Mgr.

As many have said, utility bench players make for good mgr's, but to their time spent watching and learning. While great players like Mick or Mays, could not always explain the method to their greatness.

I've heard or seen time again. I just heard on a Yanx game in the last week, Kay say: "Catchers make for good Mgr's." but do HOF Catchers....? I can't say I know of any HOF Catcher who made a great mgr. HOF Stats of Mgr's, and Catchers reveal otherwise....!

I won't even think to drag Yogi into this one tho'......he gets a free pass period....!

Though he won MOTY in 1989 Frank Robinson did not fair well as a manager finishing he career with a 475 winning% with 4 different teams. And in 16 years only had a winning record 5 times.

^^^ off the top of my head, I can't think of one HOFer elected as a player that later became a very good coach.

The Yankees will win as my O's are specializing in FUBAR events. However, my Ravens gave fans across the country their monthly cable bill worth with their work against our Steeler rivals. That was the typical brutal game I get with the Ravens. They never make it look easy except for some rare games like the Bucs and Panthers games in 014 or when they once beat the Raiders 55-20 .. I'm heading to BAL this oncoming game with my son. That crowd and atmosphere in M & T stadium are exceptional. I want to see our guys pummel Johnny fuckin football..

coach and manager.............how about the diminutive 2nd baseman
    and sometimes OF.....RED SCHOENDIENST.....70 consecutive
    years in baseball.

...Red wasn't inducted into the HOF until 1989, and only then by The Veterans Committee...by then his coaching days were pretty much over.

His numbers as both a manager or a player doesn't warrant going into hall so honestly I don't know what they based his induction on.

...I dunno, he played for 18 years and a .290 BA was pretty good for a 2Bman back in then...but yeah, as a coach he wasn't anything special...he was lucky to have some great Cardinal teams in the late 60's.

I was contemplating mentioning John McGraw as a HOF Player, and Vets Committee voted in HOF Mgr.

However McGraw in 16 yrs as a Player, then Player Mgr, before becoming the NY Giants full time Mgr. Played in but 1,099 Games only, had 1,024 Hits, only 74 K's, and 3,924 at bats. A lifetime .334 hitter. (this would never be worthy of the HOF in anything but the dead-ball era, one reason I can't buy into the hype, that was 'Little Napoleon.'

Not impressive to me, basically he had 5 good years of scoring 100+ runs. Strike outs were not even close to being as common in the dead ball oblong elongated soft ball......yet, He's a HOF'r who some consider: ***"McGraw is widely held to be "the best player to become a great manager" in the history of baseball."

    ***
Much lauded as a player, McGraw was one of the standard-bearers of dead ball era baseball. Known for having fists as quick as his temper, McGraw used every advantage he could get as both a player and manager. He took full advantage of baseball's initial structure that only provided for one umpire, becoming notorious for tripping, blocking and impeding a base-runner in any way he could while the umpire was distracted by the flight of the ball. His profligacy in employing such tactics may have led to additional umpires being assigned to monitor the base-paths.

    *** Info noted, from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McGraw

McGraw won 1 World Series as a Player (1905), but lost 3 of 5 Series as a Mgr.

If it weren't for Matthewson, Marquard, Ott, Frisch, Hack Wilson, B. Terry, R. Hornsby, C. Hubbel, with Stengel a NY Giant for 2 yrs (1921-1922), I doubt McGraw would of had a leg to stand on His own merit as a rough, brash, brute Mgr, who would cheat or fight at any turn. That to me is not a good or great Mgr, or Ball Player, just sayingm, IMO..........

Welcome to my Novel, Manifesto of BB History- in this life.....Re:

1- It's always great to take ones son along for the ride, or hear of such from others. To be a part of Professional Sports. I believe most kids exposed to MLB, NHL NFL, Boxing, in their youth, go on to develop either a Historical Foundation of Memories, for the rest of a life. From child to teen, young man, middle aged man, older man, retired man and Grandpa, to tell real tales of Legends. (My Grand-Fathers spoke first of Ruth, Gehrig, when I was a Little Leaguer, as One had seen the Gallupin Galoots and Larrupin Lou's Barnstorm tour, in both KC, and Denver. (if only he'd of kept those tobacco cards). To DiMaggio, even Mick in my own time as a kid. My 2nd GrandFather played semi-pro ball in His Youth, a Lefty, who adopted Hubbell's screwball. He taught me as much, but it over stressed my elbow and shoulder, so I realized young, don't over torque either. He played in a lucrative Semi-Pro Lg/Team; in Wichita, KS. Where as a single digit kid, to a young teen I'd get to see took in almost every Ft. Leavenworth semi-pro games in downtown Wichita at old Lawrence Stadium***, a must see Team, with as great a Fireballer, as I've ever seen, with great control. Guards were on Horsebacks with shotguns in the OF perimeters, and around the entire periphery of the park. This 24 yr old kid, "Fire Ball Jackson" #1 Pitcher in any league. He had been scouted by the Cardinals and was days away from signing a Minor Lg Contract, when he robbed a liquor store at gunpoint, got in a Cab and shot the Driver. So he's in for life, and one typical year, he threw 20 games, Striking Out 268 batters, with only 27 walks, a sub .100 Era. A sure fireballer of MLB worthy signing, if he'd of not screwed up. Fireball blanking less than the best; everyone knew he belonged in MLB and what a shame to see such talent squandered for Life In Prison-(one of the rare times, KS did NOT have a death penalty, not Jayhawker style at all.. Those were the mid days of Gibson, Koufax, Ford, Drysdale, Marichal,'Sudden Sam' McDowell, to name but a few greats.

***The Amateur Baseball World and/or Independent Minor Lg World Series is still held there yearly as its always been, in Wichita, also home to KC A's, Reds, Cards, KC Royals AA and/or AAA teams combined over time.

The true Yanx Fan Patriarchs.... Seems the case of everyone in here. But there are some young Fans, who fall off of the wagon, once they become young men on their own, who's priorties change. Not the case of anyone on this board. Kudos, to what your doing for your son, as his thrills become your memories too. Both will last all Your Lives, until he grows old and recalls Golden Years of watching HOF Players in our midst. History is made daily.....

I took a motorcycle trip from here to Goodland KS, to be with m Yankee Mentor Grandpa, who was dying of cancer, but still on His feet. I arrived just in time to watch the Yanx-Bums 81 Series, game by game, night by night, as I tended to Him, in what would be the last 2 weeks of His cancer dying life. He stayed alive to see that Series. Sad, the Yanx lost, I wish he'd of gone out seeing the Yanx win another Ring, what better way to go? I was honored, still am to this day, to say, I watched My Grandpa's last Yankee game, and damn it, was that a fkd up game to end it by those damned Bum's; and IMO Lemon's mistake in taking TJ off of the mound.

2- My closest friend, and neighbor thru High School, has been a Professor at TAMU (TX A&M) for 26 years, and fed me On Campus insights into JFF, esp during the time of His joke of a suspension signing autographs. His in school shenanigans, and pompous arrogance, did not mix well with a student body, unless the were kissing his ass, and many were.. His attitude at school, and in class, JFF, wasn't at A&M to get a degree, rather seek out notoriety by going over board in all endeavors, his downfall?? Why any Team would gamble on JFF, is taking control out of a coaches hand, and casting ones lot, or entrusting a kid. Being a Saban Fan, Bama, Ga., LSU, hell an SEC Fan. I was so fkng pissed off, when JFF beat Bama in Tuscaloosa 2012, a riot should of ensued, it would of been justified.

2013, redemption was sweet, when Bama and Saban devised a plan to keep his out of the pocket running, sacking JFF twice, and causing hurried up throws with 2 INT's. So he threw for 5 TD's and 464 yards, McCarron threw for 4. JFF ran for 98 yards, but was contained enough he never scored running. A close game by Score, but IMO, a beat down of Manziel. Bama, had ran for punishing 234 yards, utilizing 3 RB's, for 2 TD's. 628 yards of total TAMU offense, and JFF still got pinched....
It would not bother me to see The Raven's put an end to JFF's career ability to run once and for all. He's not even close to a complete deal player. JFF, Can't pass in the Pocket, or trust the pocket to move around in, long enough to ever be an effective QB....IMHO.......
