Roy and Miller have "solid chemistry" during today's practice

That doesn't make any sense. I'll just point out one flaw though. If Andre playing with the 2nd team for 18-20 minutes per night does not include Roy, that would mean that Roy is playing the other minutes in the game. 48 - 18 to 20 = 28 to 30 mpg for Roy. You didn't think this out very well.

 

As nice a guy and great a teammate as Roy appears to be, he's still got the biggest ego in the room (not that there's anything wrong with that in your franchise player).

Roy wants and needs to be 'the man.' I seem to recall statements Roy made after the all-star game when he shined next to Chris Paul, that led many (including me) to conclude Roy didn't think a single ball was enough for both of them.

So to me it stands to reason that part of him would prefer to continue to play with the innocuous Steve Blake. OTOH, he also realizes Miller will help him by taking some pressure off of him.

Also, even though he's talked about Miller helping to take the load off, and being able to work on his off the ball game with Miller on the floor, it still requires him to stretch his game and work out of his comfort zone. In the long run, Roy will get over it and appreciate the help Miller will provide.

 

If Miller isn't our starting Point Guard by the season opener, I might shoot myself. It's ridiculous to think he won't be. Roy will soon learn how much better life is with Miller on the court. And he'll love it.

In the practice clips, I thought Bayless looked really good, especially shooting the ball. If he can do that in the pressure of a real game, that would be sweet. I just don't know how we'll find out with Miller and Blake and Roy and Rudy ahead of him?

 

If Bayless shoots his J in percentile range of the other guards, I don't think Nate will have much trouble finding him minutes. Dude's perimeter game was lacking last year and he's not the best playmaker/PG, but he is a superior athlete to Blake & Miller. I'm sure management would love to have him make cutting ties with Steve after this season a no-brainer.

And as good as this team is, and as good as Roy has been, I don't think we will ever win a championship with Roy running an iso at the top of the key at the end of every game. Teams figured out how to defend that, and it really messed with our offense last year. This team needs more ball movement to really be effective. The iso is great in stretches, but when that's your fallback every time, it's extremely easy to plan for it.

 

I like to see that/any ISO used predominently when we have a disadvantaged defender. If that defender is weak and his team does not compensate we take advantage of the mis-match until it gets stopped.

Huston did that with Yao until we could stop it.

 

Yeah, but it seemed like we kept running it even if the other team was shutting it down. One thing I would like to see us work on us figuring out a way to counter when the team doubles brandon on the pick and roll. Brandon iso's up top, screen comes, both defenders stay with brandon and force him into a tough shot. I saw that a lot last season, and I'd like to see Brandon find the open man in that scenario.

 

Exactly. Just look at the Lakers, Kobe couldn't do shit (in the post-season) until they got Pau and the rest of their frontline started showing it could dominate another team.

Roy's presence is vital, but any further advancement in the playoffs goes hand-in-hand with the (continued) development (and hopefully dominance) of Oden and LaMarcus.

 

It's no coincidence that the Lakers' resurgence coincided with the addition of Pau.

I'm just tired of hearing all this bullshit about how Brandon likes to have the ball in his hands. He can't coexist with a ball-dominant point guard because he has to have the ball in his hands. Get over it BRoy. You're a shooting guard. Unless Brandon can learn to feed the post and distribute the ball effectively, he is going to have to deal with having a point guard like Andre Miller on the team.

Brandon is great, and he is the heart and soul of this team, but it's going to take more than Roy to bring home a championship.

You could use the same arguement for Miller, quit worrying about shots and pass sooner and more often.

 

I totally agree! ISO's are great for starting a play, but the guy with the ball has got to recognize when to get rid of it and not always to a spot-up three point shooter. Look for the big in the middle.

I think this team will get much better at sharing and moving the ball this year. At least I hope so.

Right, everyone knows what a "me-first", shoot-first, scoring point guard Miller is. Why don't you just stick to what you do best -- sucking off can't shoot, can't defend point guards and slagging Bayless.

 

Speaking of Bayless, I was quite impressed with him in that scrimmage video yesterday.

 

That's the direction he's been heading the last few years.

His assists have dropped considerably (nearly 1/3) from 4 years ago and his scoring has increased about 1/4th.

That's a huge swing away from being what some once called a pass-first PG.

This team needs a distributor to keep everyone happy. If Andre is planning on replacing Sergio's 4 shots per game with the 13-14 he's been taking, lots of players will not only be unhappy, they'll play worse.

 

I'm usually impressed with him, as long as he's not playing PG.

 

Miller adapted to the role the Sixers required of him; but that's OK just keep hating and stirring up shit, we wouldn't expect anything less.
