Anyone that wants there bet can have it. I'm more depressed about this news than losing money.

Re: According to Chris Broussard, Roy to announce medical retirement today!

maybe not since it's well before the reg season starts I would think this has a good chance to be "adjusted" to the opening of camp next yr at least given the lockout, we are only ONE DAY past a new CBA being ratified

BTW, Ford's wrong on that rule. From Storyteller's: Article VII, Section 4 (h) of the previous CBA:

"Beginning on the first anniversary of the injury or illness, the Team may apply to the NBA to have the player’s Salary for each remaining Salary Cap Year covered by the Contract excluded from Team Salary."

I trust story more than Ford. In this case, the original injury was last winter, right? Or at least you could say, the last game played. No amnesty would be needed for him to come off our cap before 2012 FA period.

One of the coolest professional athletes I have ever associated myself with! He will be missed on and off the court!

If its true, I feel bad for Roy. It's gotta be real hard to admit you cant play the game you love... the game you where so good at... the game that was such a huge part of your life for such a long time... the game you worked your ass off to improve.

I feel for you guys (fans) and the NBA. He really earned his big contract, and it sucks he's gone from top of the world to early retirement.

On the plus side, maybe he wants your job.

Discussing retirement and actually doing it are two separate things. Don't get me wrong even though I love BROy, this would make things easier on the Blazers and fans. But it seems a bit premature until we hear it from a better source. Or at least until we hear who the source is.

I look at it like a celebration.

    A) Roy goes out on his terms, not carted off the floor or something.
    B) The last thing people will remember is his Game 4. Not a season of 2002 Jordan or being in a Bulls uniform or something.
    C) He gets paid, but also still has (relative) health. He's not hobbling when he goes to the movies or anything (like Walton or Phil Jackson)
    D) He's always gonna be a Blazer.

Wow he must be crying right now. He has so much pride. What a class act. This decision helped his team. He will be regarding to me as one of the classiest special blazers to ever play this game.

I never expected BRoy to go back to his all-star level but I also never expected this. Shocked and sad. I agreed that something is very very odd about his personal health endorsement to management just a few days ago. I never quite know how to feel about management.

Yup. If it goes down, I see this as a the best possible outcome for all parties -- the least amount of bad feelings, financial flexibility, fewer rotation questions, an expanded role for Batum and/or Williams to see if they can get it done.

I know people are upset and it is kind of sad for Brandon that his bright career was cut so short, but this is a good thing people -- in two years nearly everyone will see this.
