That's one theory. Who knows? If this "Medical Retirement" rumor is true, there has to be more to it than we know. This just doesn't compute with what was reported just a few days ago. Maybe Roy sees the writing on the wall here (reduced roll) and wants out. I have no clue. Why now? What happened in the last few days to facilitate this? Maybe Nik is right and he simply wants out. It's hard to believe that HE believes he's done after what he said just a few days ago.

Please say it ain't so. Brandon Roy retiring. Losing one of the best 2 guards in the league before he's ready to go. So unfortunate man! SMH

    From ESPN:
Roy's retirement would eventually give the Blazers salary-cap relief. League rules call for a waiting period of one year from the date of the player's injury or illness, after which the Blazers could get Roy's contract off their books.

Since Roy played all the way into the playoffs last season, that date will likely be April 28, 2012 -- one year from the day the Blazers were eliminated from the playoffs.

^^^This makes it sound like his contract would be off the books next season.

His knees are already "too fucked up to ever play again." That's not the news. The news is, he's going to retire (supposedly), which if true is good for him and his family, and as it turns out, good for the Blazers.

I guess that's what raised my eyebrow. All that talk about "feeling good" and Nate starting him, etc. And then "boom," I'm done.

I'm not saying it's a conspiracy or a power play, but I do find the timing odd.

I'm reading a bit into the Woj post...maybe Bran hurt himself pretty badly in the last day or so, and now the condition is much worse than before?

Hmmmm ... I kind of doubt that. Supposedly he was asking the league office "medical retirement" questions two weeks ago.

Well then why the hell did he do all this posturing to convince the team (and ultimately the fans) that he felt great?

I really don't know. My guess is that there is far more behind the scenes that we don't (and may never) know about.

And to think that part of the reason we didn't draft KD was because we already had Roy . . .

And the same reason we drafted Bowie over Jordan ... maybe there's a lesson to be learned here?
