He cannot break the gimmick - it would be too out of character.

MIXUM is like a pro wrestling character. To Heel, with lame hooks and shit. Always booed, not because he makes you mad, but because he is sad.

If so, the message came a little late. Of our 83 points at the time of the foul, about 79 were easy.

Yeah, nothing like trying to close the barn door after the horse is already gone... out to pasture, died of old age and been made into glue and dog food.

The best message you can send about no easy points is a little something called defense. If you play it, you don't give up 61 points in the first half, aren't down 28 and don't have to commit stupid, dangerous fouls to "send a message" about all the easy points you've been giving up all game long.

I agree with you and disagree with EdO's take.

No 1. Batum and Rudy were not "showboating" any more than they normally do when Batum throws down dunks and Rudy hits threes. Rudy ALWAYS does his hands in the air with the 3 fingers when he hits one.

No 2. Trevor Ariza seemed to me to be in the midst of a big-time frustration foul.

No 3. Ariza SWUNG at Rudy. Yes, it was in the general direction of the ball - more or less. No, that in no way is a legit play for the ball, as Ariza maintains. The cocked back and then full swipe that Ariza took is not a needed motion to make a play for the ball. His full swing was in frustration and/or intended to deliver a hard blow, wherever it happen to hit - hand, wrist, forearm, head - whatever - he didn't seem to give a shit.

No 4. Ariza HELD Rudy's arm after the hit to the head. Holding his arm seemed to be the action that caused Rudy to twist in mid-air. That action by Ariza significantly increased the chances of Rudy being injured.

No 5. Ariza did not check on the condition of Rudy. Nor did he apoligize for his behavior.

No 6. Ariza immediately started talking trash to the Blazers. This supports the notion that his attack on Rudy was intentional. If it is an accident, the player says "Fuck you, I didn't mean it." If it was intentional the player says, "Don't run up the score on us or I will fuck you up."

Even if you assume that is all true, Ariza's action in the moment was very reckless.

He decided to put Rudy in a risky situation in violation of the rules and spirt of the game.

And Ariza's recklessness and attitude after the incident show that he MEANT his actions, and that the consequences were beside the point.

He was going to deliver a hard foul - no matter what. And he wasn't too concerned what could likely/logically happen if he did deliver that foul. He took an excessively wide and hard swing and he grabbed Rudy's arm. Those actions made it more likely that injury would occur.

You should know that in a crime, intent is important, but isn't everything. If I intend to kill someone that is murder. If I don't intend to kill someone, but act with reckless disregard for their life and cause their death or injury - do I get to walk?

Doesn't matter if Ariza intended to hurt Rudy or not. I doubt he did. What matters is that he acted with reckless disregard of Rudy's health.

Wheels just reported that Rudy was downgraded from "questionable" to "doubtful" for Wednesday game vs. Dallas. Hopefully he'll be on the bench.

Just heard on the game that Rudy is downgraded to doubtful for Wednesday's game.

    Bruised chest and hip pointer.

Could have been a TON worse!

No doubt. Falls like that brutally remind me that we're essentially a very fragile brain and spinal cord, and a lot of our body is just padding to try to prevent those from getting crushed/shattered.

Ya, I"d like to body slam his candy-ass from 6 feet in the air onto hardwood and see how long it takes him to get up. *edited: No personal attacks*

    What a relief!

Any time you see a guy carried out on a stretcher in a neck brace, it totally changes your perspective. I'd be happy to see Rudy sit out a month if it means he'll fully recover.

Hope Jensen takes a photograph of that incident and tapes it to a set of Rudy's barbells this summer.

"You jump off of one leg, and you're exposed" - what a load of horse shit. Ok. Time to ALWAYS jump off TWO legs so you don't "expose" yourself to getting drilled in mid air? Ok. Makes sense. :dunno:
