In his few games he has played I have seen him get the ball at the top to break down a defender left with the shot clock running down. Thats not his strenght or his game. Maybe his role in that aspect or trust has been expanded. But I still think they are using Rudy in almost entirely the wrong way.
Rudy gets a curl play run for him 4-7 times a game where he receives a pass coming around a around a pick (usually set by Aldridge). On this play Rudy can either pull up and shoot a 12-14 footer, drive to the basket, drive and dish, pull back and run a pick and roll or pick and pop, back up to the three point line where he can shoot or he can just dump the ball into Aldridge. Once Aldridge has the ball Rudy can either stay at the three point line spacing the floor for Aldridge, cut to the basket and receive a pass or just clear out. It's a great play for Rudy that takes advantage of a lot of his skills on one play. What else can the Blazers do?
I guess I just dont see it those 4 to 7 times a game. I see it about twice a game.. and thats mainly on the big games I get to see on TV.. since I cant get comcast I dont get to actually see very many. So maybe I am wrong on that. Just my observations fromt he games I see.
yeah baby, Rudy fucked up again going 0-6 for 3point attempts. His only positive was 3 defensive rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 turnovers giving him a +6!
Bottom line is that Rudy is just not "that good", he's overhyped and while ultimately he's a solid sub that's it, and like Blake when his shot is not falling he is a liability much of the time.
Steve Blake 0-5 in 24 minutes....invisible on offfense... Martell Webster 1-4 3 TO in 14 minutes...Jekyl & Hyde play continues Jerryd Bayless 3-7 3 TO in 15 minutes...Yeah keep Bull rushing your way to the basket, only to get served it back in your face....
It's time to realize that Rudy is closer to Marco Belinelli than Drazen Petrovic. If we can land a proven, consistent scorer in a deal then he should be shipped out.
Carmello Anthony gets his shot blocked more than anybody else in the league. You don't see him stopping. You can't get fouls on bigs without attacking them. You can't get fouls on opposing guards without attacking them. The part about how to attack will come in time. For instance, before Roy went out I saw Bayless get blocked on a shot. The next play, like a big brother, Roy showed him how to take his body into the shot blocker to knock him off and score over him. Unfortunately Roy went out soon after that with injury. But the key is, he was trying to teach the youngster what to do. You don't stop attacking the rim. You can't be afraid of getting your shot blocked in this league.
That may be so Hasoos, but you don't put your blinders on either and just bull rush towards the rim....and Bayless is going to be a sub average player until he can consistently hit an outside shot...I don't think he is the level of prospect many here seem to think he can become...
Actually I believe that much of it is out of desperation. Nobody is moving on offense. Young players often when nothing is working, get desperate and try to make something happen. Bayless has been "the guy" on all the teams he has been on in the past. As it turns out, when you are used to being "the guy" you are used trying to make something happen when the team isn't performing well. I agree with you he will have to get a consistent jumper to make his game ever come to fruition. But right now, he doesn't have it, and we have to deal with what we are given.
You know...I agree with part of that assesment....and I ask, where does the blame fall then? I felt sorry for Andre last night....late in the game...here he is basically FORCED to try and score\make soemthing happen...because NO ONE ELSE wanted to shoot the damm ball.... Someone BTW should chart how many times Steve Blake passes the ball to other players...because all the guy does is dribble around and pass the ball off...I ask how the hell does that help on offense? It is like playing 4v5 when he is out there.... Can Nate and the coaching staff get some more criticism...FINALLY? I know the lemmings like Mike Barrett and Brian Wheeler won't say a damm thing, everything is sunshine and roses according to them...particularly when it comes to Nate....But Nate's philosphy on offense "Shoot it early...umm he means NEVER because it rarely happens...or shoot it late" is ASININE..... Rudy, Bayless, Webster,Andre or even Aldridge cannot be expected to create a good shot with 3 seconds left on the clock.... Seriously, where is the criticism of Nate on this?
If these are professionals we need for them to put a full gut out on every night. Yes, NBA players go in a funk for a bit (not shooting well, causing turnovers) but he must be dealing with confidence issues (back?) which is causing him to miss. He better find out whats bugging him otherwise his trade value will go down and he will be on the trading block along with Blake.
