Okay - that explains the odd 5, 5, 15 structure. Is that now not allowed? You can't go up $10M in a single season? Because it's not the case that Chicago couldn't match Asik - they just didn't want to.
The key word in this blurb is "expected ". Not has made an offer, but thinks we will. Which means he is getting his info from us.
friend at work thinks the reason we sold picks two years in a row was so that we could send out someone like Freeland, who is worth nothing, to some team with room to spare, plus 3mil, they would essentially get Freeland for free for one year, and have all his rights just in case he panned out. So If the Blazers did that, it would give them about 12mil, which is about where Sota might not be willing to match.
Part of me just wonders if this isn't just a bit of "revenge" for all of the shenanigans that went on with Nicolas last summer?
I bet we try to offload Freeland using Meyers, as well. Meyers + Freeland = 5.2 mill additional in capspace bringing us to 14 mill. Throw 14 mill @ Pek?
It seems logical that we would love to do that. (Giving Freeland away for a 2nd round pick) but I am not so sure we will find any takers until the FA buying frenzy is over. Everyone wants their cap space. 3 million is a lot right now.
What do you think Pek is worth? 12? Don't you think Minny matches what his value is? If Splitter is getting 10+, Pek for 14 is worth it.
Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors (Merged threads) I am not sure why the Blazers would do this. The guy hasn't completed a season yet. He is averaging 58 games a year. It seems rehab is his specialty.
I'm curious on how you think we would be screwed? They have 3 days to match. If they match, then we have all that space to go for other free agents or use it for lopsided trades.
My biggest question is a few things. 1.) Does Pek demand double teams 2.) Can Pek protect the rim (doesn't need to block shots, just alter shots) 3.) Can Pek run the pick and roll well?
Dumping Meyers for nothing and nothing to show for it. You think getting Splitter for 14 million a year is a win? Ugh.
Ahhh okay I missed the "using leonard" in part of this scenario. Yeah I can see this being a problem unless we have the ability to get Asik; by freeing up cap space for Smith.
