So much energy and emotion wasted on a wretched human being best ignored. I also find it odd that no one seems to want to address the elephant over there in the corner - his cancer is very likely the product of his life long smoking. (as an ex-smoker I get to be a little self-righteous about this) Wouldn't shock me if his drug abuse contributed as well.

Again, there's a massive difference between not having sympathy for someone compared to actually taking joy in their death.

This is going to be my final statement in this thread. Many years ago when I was around 12 I was in a children's theater group. This was supposed to be a place where you could be yourself and hang out with similar kids without the pressures of school. There was a kid around my age that made my life hell. He bullied me mercilessly and I despised him for it. I don't know if it was because one director really liked me and the other director was his mom so we were always in similar roles, but the kid just really felt threatened by me. I had a massive crush on one of the girls in the company so I gutted it out. This went on for a few years until I quit.

One day my mom told me that he died in a car crash. I think he was 15. His brother in law was driving him back from the coast, tried to pass into oncoming traffic, lost control and went over the embankment. The brother in law didn't have a scratch but sadly the kid did not survive. This was 24 or 25 years ago and I still remember the range of emotions that I felt when I found out he died. Happiness was not one of them. This was a kid that I hated. He had an active role in making my life worse. I had every right to detest this person, but I wasn't happy that his life ended. It was a strange feeling that I'm not sure I can describe. One minute he existed in my world and the next he was gone. I wasn't sad that he died, but I wouldn't say I was unsympathetic. I struggled with hearing so many people gush over how great he was. How he was such a positive influence. I realize that we remember the best in people who die around us, and maybe there was a side to him that I never got to see, but I never saw it.

The aftermath of his death was massive. His sister and brother-in-law split up, which was especially tragic because they had a newborn. His mother and father split up. His mom pretty much went batshit crazy as a result of his passing. His close friends were all clearly changed as well. All of this to circle back to my point. While I can understand why someone might not be sad or even sympathetic that someone died, I personally cannot understand being happy or celebrating their death. That's a dark place that I personally will never go.

 

When this man passes away, there will be less hate in the world. I'll leave it at that.

I mean, that’s sad all the way around. And I know what point you are trying to make. But it’s apples and oranges for me. A kid dying at age 15 who bullied - which is terrible- but was a kid, and dies in a car crash before he’s had a life to live really, is different than a man who for 50 years repeatedly caused harm but spreading hate to his millions of listeners. Again, your point is don’t take pleasure in someone’s death, even if you despise them, I understand. But what if this kid lived another fifty years, and what he did to you, he kept on doing until he was in his 70’s, and while doing it made $500M to load up his bank account? Different?

 

Here's the thing, the dude is gonna be replaced. If he dies, nothing changes. Someone else becomes the new Rush. Am I said he's going to die? No. I guess I'm sad for anyone that goes from the pain of loss, like family members. I have seen cancer first hand. It killed my grandmother and it almost killed my father. It's a horrible horrible way to die. Does he deserve that death for profiting off hate? I guess that's your call to make.

 

I too have seen cancer close up. It killed my aunt, my brother and my mother. I am a cancer survivor. My brother died in my arms coughing up blood. Don't give me that shit about how you are more affected by it than people like me.
Here's the rub, none of my deceased family members made a profession out of spewing hate which undoubtedly has resulted in the deaths of some innocent lives. This really pisses me off. Yeah, I don't believe in the death penalty and wish Rush could live out his remaining years in prison but he's gonna die and I'll have to satisfy myself with God's will.

ps If someone replaces him then whatever they do is on them.

Not seeing any reason for the glee in his suffering.

It's not like he's looting shops or killing babies in the womb.

Just exercising his Freedom of speech.

 

I have freedom of speech to say Rush is a cancer on humanity who deliberately used his time on earth to make the world more hateful.
