so he grew an inch taller but his wingspan expanded by 3 inches??? I've heard the Fan play it fast and loose with the facts a few times. This may have been one of those times... or... maybe they got the measurement wrong at the Hoops Summit. But something doesn't add up.

I agree those numbers are proof. There is no way to know if or by how much Batum grew since then. Little point in guessing.

Just want to comment though that Batum looks real long on the court, whatever his measurements may be.

It's equally plausible that his old measurements were wrong or a typo.

That is standing reach, not wingspan.

Precisely. Pryz is taller, yet Batum appears to have nearly the same standing reach. That tells me his wingspan probably is in the 7'4" range, i.e. comparable to, if not longer than, Pryz's.

I haven't gotten the numbers from MB yet but it's also important to note that the Nike Hoop Summit numbers proved to be highly inaccurate. According to their numbers Koponen is only 6'1" (came in at 6'5" this summer), Jerrryd Bayless is essentially 6'4" (he's 6'3" in shoes), Rose is nearly 6'4" (he's really only 6'1"). The Summit numbers have no credibility.

no it's not equally plausible, a typo by unbiased sources is far less likely then blowhard announcers hyping up what they're selling... we see the latter constantly.
I'm thinking you had a terrible angle. There is no way that Batum has a standing reach better then what Joel's is (9'2.5)... my link had Batum with a standing reach of 8'8.75

Geez I understand rooting for the guys on the team and all, but wishful thinking does not change facts

An interesting Dime Magazine article from June:

you are aware that many many many times we see the oft repeated measurements of players thrown out by mags like Dime, sports talk shows, and team announcers revealed to be false when confronted by an official measurement right? I was never doubting that you'd heard or read it somewhere, just that it is very unlikely to be actually true.

The pre-draft was likely the last chance we could hope to get an accurate measurement on Batum. We'll likely remain in the dark about his actual size for the duration of his career... oh well

what in the world are you talking about?

The link I provided had PK at 6'3.75 in shoes or over 6'2 if you go with the average shoe thickness being 1.25-1.5" And according to multiple reports this summer Koponen looked to have grown significantly since the summer prior when those measurements were made.

Jerryd, Beasley, Rose, Mayo... all their measurements at the Hoops Summit were consistent with those they posted a year later at their pre-draft... linked below

    http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre...s.php?year=2008&sort2=DESC&draft=&pos=&sort=1

and you're going to take MB's word over official measurements???

I'm starting to think that Ainge is enamored with KP. Which is beyond me since he just pieced together a team that won the finals last year.

What does one have to do with the other? Ainge can be successful and respect Pritchard too.

Ok, lets be real. Batum was talked about for the two years proceeding the draft as a top-5 talent. People speculated that he would go in the high lottery, but he failed to show progress in his statistics and was pretty much forgotten as he was so "raw". He still is raw. He has a lot of tools, particularly his length and athleticism.

I agree that SA was targeting him, as that is pretty much what everyone thinks at this point. He is a low-risk high-reward type of player and I love that we grabbed him. If you go back and search on BBF, you can see I was talking about Batum well before the draft and hoped that we grabbed him (I called Rudy as well the year before).

Anyways, this post had a point, but I've already forgotten it. Oh well...

Do you know what "enamored " means?

    :)

To be enamored of someone means that you love them or are infatuated with them.
