If they really like him - the timing makes sense - why wait and hope he falls through the cracks? They were going to get some minimum salary guy anyway, why not get one they like early instead of getting whoever is available from the reject heap?

I think he should start opening night. He can shoot, handle, and isn't totally lost on defense.

Absolutely, but because of the timing it FEELS like a Sauce for Davis trade, which is unappealing even if only for positional reasons.

    Hahaha good joke.

If the past predicts the future, Terry will take Stauskas out of his game and tell him to pitch a tent in the corner.

I do like having that extra starter who can spread the floor for Dame, CJ, and Nurk

Not a bad list but I think Harkless is too low on it. I do not have a problem with him at PF, but I would put him ahead of Swanigan.
And I wonder if Baldwin and ET can co-exist on the 2nd unit. Although it could be a good defensive unit along with Collins and Harkless.

Another Leonard. If he played as well as he makes excuses, he'd be an all-star. At least Ole' didn't pay this one like an all-star.

My roster assumes he'll stay injured.

    July 28!
    August 30!

We do have Baldwin's Early Bird Rights so re-signing him shouldn't be a problem even if he plays well. We'd also have the MLE to offer one of Curry or Stauskas if we want to keep one. So it seems logical that we could keep at least 2 of the 3 if we want. I'll gladly take the scenario that all 3 play well this year and we have to figure out a way to try and keep them over them not being worth signing next year. If all 3 are playing well we could also trade one of them at the deadline for some front court help.

Stauskus wouldve been on that reject heap, and I don't say that to be mean, I just cant imagine that they couldnt have gotten him later. I understand what you’re saying but it just came across so bad how NO handled this summer. All the talk about needing a vet wing and experience. Then basically did the opposite of what he went out to do. Hopefully Staukus outperforms the contract and plays well.

Dont worry, he’ll talk up the trade deadline. And then when that passes without any upgrades, he’ll talk about the better deals to be had in the summer. And round and round we go.

This cycle is EXACTLY what I've tried to tell everyone here for years!

Slowly we gain in numbers! After I'm dead you can carry on the struggle, then your children, then their children...until Olshey is vanquished from the face of the Earth!!

How can you tell if someone did not get to their pick of the reject heap before them?

Clearly, they knew they were going to get a minimum contract - and they clearly wanted him in this position. I honestly do not see the issue.

It’s so aggravating. And I think the worst part is that I fell for it for so long, and some are still falling for it now.

Actually no, the worst part is that Paul Allen falls for it. Neil should’ve been fired awhile ago.

“We can’t sign free agents because Portland isn’t a destination.”

“We can’t trade for anyone because no one wants to trade.”

Then when he finally took some responsibility this summer, he proceeded to do absolutely nothing about it.

Watch, the only trade we might make this deadline is dumping Harkless to dip under the tax.

    FUCK. OUT. OF. HERE.

Once again, other than Sacramento no team can even come close to taking on that kind of salary. That makes it unlikely to do that.

It only takes one and they’ve been connected to him before. They also could use a SF.

But not only would they have to be interested in Harkless but they'd also have to not use any part of their current cap space between now and the deadline. It's very unlikely and also would be silly to have your whole plan to get under the tax hinging on one team being able to do it. I know you think Olshey is stupid but he's not that dumb.

Ok you don’t have to break down a hypothetical, I get it. I’m saying if a move is made it’ll be something like that, and not something that’ll upgrade what’s on the court.

It's not a hypothetical though, there is literally only one team capable of helping us out in that situation and we have no clue if they would. Don't be like that just because you can't back up your snarky comment.
