    What was my snarky comment?

And there is more than one way to dip under the tax. Harkless was one example. They could even dump Harkless for someone like Shumpert and save money that could go towards resigning Aminu. Who cares

I care because there are plenty of things to criticize Olshey about but you are choosing to go after him about something that hasn't happened yet and is virtually impossible to do anyway.

I tend to think if the Blazers make a move at the trade deadline it will be salary cap related, unless the Blazers are just really bad than maybe a "big" move might happened. I kind of think they're happy to not be in the repeater tax and are prepared to pay some of the luxury tax i they have too. I believe they've dipped under the line the last 2 years so they don't have a repeater tax.

It’s funny that you choose to come after me for this when you turned against Olshey yourself this summer, specifically about not using the TPE. What changed?

Nothing's changed. Go after Olshey for shit he does or doesn't do. You said I don't have to break down a hypothetical but I'm telling you it would take a miracle combination of trades (aside from Sacramento) to pull off getting under the tax line this year. I don't think Olshey is capable of doing it even if he wanted to so it seems rather silly to me to predict that is what he is going to do.

Youre stuck on the Harkless thing. He was just an example. And not impossible btw, especially since Woj reported Sacs interest in Harkless less than a year ago. My point was that Neil’s focus is financial. Whether it’s dipping under the tax, whether it’s saving on the bill next year, whatever. It won’t be about upgrading the product on the court, because pretty much all the moves in the last year plus have been financially motivated. So until I see a move that proves otherwise, I’m going to stick with that, and I’m going to continue criticizing him about it.

I think that is totally dependent on the record. At the deadline the last two years we've barely been a playoff team. Both seasons saw a huge run after the deadline. In my opinion they wouldn't have ducked the tax, especially last year with the big TPE, had they gone on the 13 game winning streak or Nurk fever run sooner. So if the team is out of the playoff picture or fighting for the 8th seed then I absolutely could see them making financial type moves and would probably agree with them.

I would love for them to trade Turner for Koufos or something like that. It gets rid of a problem, gives us a more capable backup center, and has hugely positive cap implications. I might even give up a lottery protected 1st for that and I hate trading draft picks. I just don't see a scenario where they get under the tax and saving a few dollars seems pointless otherwise unless it is a Plumlee for Nurkic type trade.

Just for arguments sake there are a few playoff type teams that could technically absorb an Aminu or even a Harkless. Denver is one, and they’re starting an undersized Barton at SF. I know it’s not likely but Sacramento isn’t the only option either.

And saving dollars matters when you’re paying luxury tax, especially if you’re not a contender. So you’re right, it probably will depend on the record.

If only Olshey would've pulled the trigger on a Mirotic deal last year with the TPE. We'd have Nurk, Aminu, Collins, and Mirotic as our main 4 bigs. Although that would most likely have also meant no Simon either though and the start of the repeater tax.

I'm aware there are teams with a TPE. I actually wish Denver would do something like that because it would completely fuck them over trading away a 1st to get rid of guys with one year left on their contracts only to go right back to over the tax line.

It was so bittersweet seeing mirotic teabag the blazers in the playoffs. Thanks Neil!

Isn’t repeater only after a team is in the luxury tax for three seasons?

Seeing Olshey dunked on, especially after so many on this board were advocating for Mirotic.

I’m glad they got swept. Don’t need any moral victories. Maybe now they’ll play with an edge.

Yes I meant not starting the 3 year clock. I'm sure no one was predicting getting Nurk on such a low number.
