I watched a video on POTENTIAL busts, and there was talk about Scoot. Of course, the video concentrated on his offense, which has been somewhere from abysmal to mediocre. However, what I look for are assists. He is 34th in the league in assists/36 with 6.4: https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2024_per_minute.html This is ahead of Maxey and Giannis, and just behind Shai. Lillard is averaging 6.9. So, while I'd like to see an improvement this year, I am happy, for now. However, his assist/TO (1.53) needs to improve dramatically: https://www.nba.com/stats/players/advanced?PerMode=Totals&PlayerPosition=G&dir=A&sort=AST_TO
Haven't found the Video yet, just the tweet. But the more i think about it, maaaybe he was right. Scoot was great in the 1st half, and didn't do much in the 2nd half and had some bad turnovers. The Blazers went on a run and Billups stuck with that group. In the end it was the right decision because the Blazers won the game, but it's gonna suck for Scoot
I don't see the big deal in not putting Scoot back in at the end of a close game. Right now he is not as dependable as Ant and Malcolm. He will get there but right now that high dribble of his is a big ass target that Giannis would have feasted on. Why embarrass the kid on national TV?
This game? I don't really care. I don't like this approach in general though. We shouldn't be caring about wins and losses this much.
Let us say we trade Malcolm, and Sharpe comes back by the deadline.......Scoot will get a few more minutes but will he finish games? That backcourt lineup will go to Ant and Sharpe....at least for this season. And that would be the correct call IMO. It is still a young backcourt and Simons is still our best option to score in crunch time. He needs to be on the floor.
I don't care about who starts or finishes games. I DO care that he's averaging 21 minutes per game over the last 10 games.
If you take out the 2 games that he left due to an injury, he is averaging about 26 minutes in the last 10. That's not too bad. But yeah 22 minutes is a little low like he has gotten the last 3 games.
Chauncey trying to win games and playing our vets a ton of minutes right now is not really helping us.
Yeah we definitely shouldn’t be featuring our prime trade assets on national TV against an elite opponent.
I think Billups is right in his assessment. Scoot’s playing well but we saw how easily his confidence just shattered at the beginning of the season. Can you imagine how bad it’d be for him if he were to be responsible for losing the biggest game of our season on National TV? We have plenty of time, no need to put him in a situation with so much to lose right now.
Sorry my bad. That said, I don’t take any coaching decision this close to the deadline (including the last ten games) as anything more than being told to feature our assets.
Honestly don't blame him, unless hes got some kind of handshake deal with cronin about not worrying about wins and to play the rooks and he wont get fired, hes probably got to try and win while also developing scoot and other rooks. And who knows maybe cronin is telling him to highlight potential trade candidates more than the rooks because he knows they will get their time after the deadline. And while scoot should definitely get more minutes, at least hes not getting even less.
