I read your post, I mentioned the catalogue specifically because of boobies. I did also check out my grandpa's National Geographic collection from time to time. I have only ever put Mags on ignore for the "bananas" crap and only for a moment.

When I was 6 years old my parents bought a house that was built in 1905. They bought it from the estate of the folks who were the original owners (interesting note: the husband was a Spanish American War veteran and he was exempt...I believe it was....from property taxes. Some sort of odd Oregon "Thanks for your service" deal from back then) and had lived there 55 years. In the basement were hundreds of old National Geographic from the teens through the 30's. My brothers and I spent many rainy days down there happily tearing through every issue, looking for the "African" photo essays. And it didn't even matter that every single photo from that period was in black and white. We got our education and then some. Interesting how it was okay to show naked "natives" but not naked white women back then. The nuns could never explain the dichotomy and I spent a great deal of time in the confessional for even asking......
Montgomery Wards too. Back in the day, the arrival of the new Wards, Roebucks, and Stoeger Arm catalog provided hours of reading.
Most people didn't have a grandfather who was an early....and extremely vocal....civil rights proponent. Of course my other grandfather was an alcoholic and virulent racist. But that's a story for another day.....

I remember this. They were kind a dumb. I had a Discover Card and when I moved, I never thought to notify them of the change in address. Well I owed some small amout that road the books until I tried to use the card. Dang they had it on a confiscate list, then they put a credit collection on me. Geez I would have paid the friggin bill if I had known about. Not only did the lose the sale but ran a customer off too, damn near 30 years ago.
