People don't talk about it much, but given his height, high release, and lack of a dip, he's got one of the hardest to guard three point shots in the game off the catch. Just an ideal spot up shooter.
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/ RAPTOR numbers: Some observations: Winslow is our best defensive player. Nurk has the highest DEF raptor but DEF raptor heavily favors centers impact. Still Nurk is probably our second best defender. Sharpe being -.7 as a rookie is impressive, not hurting the team in any real way. Dame being +5.6 offensive is low for him, he's usually much higher. But I think -2.7 is a record for him defensively. Nas good offense bad defense, matches the eye test. It's actually impressive that Eubanks has a -6.1 DEF RAPTOR as a center. You've gotta try to do that.
Hmmmm… BPM has Drew as one of our best defenders, better than Nurk. RAPTOR’s box score component has Drew as by far our worst. Does’t breed confidence in these metrics.
Are you looking at raw BPM? That's gonna be more noisy than RAPTOR which uses player tracking data. http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/page/2/position/6 RPM also has Nurk as a +2.80 and Eubanks as a -0.98. Also the eye test. Eubanks looks way worse than Nurk especially guarding the pick and roll.
Matches my eye test. Shame others can't recognize defense and want to trade Nurk or let go of Justise. Sharpe's defense has been the single biggest surprise. Can't wait to add GP2.
I’m looking at basketball reference BPM advanced stat. Yeah I think Nurk a better defender but I don’t think Drew is a bad defender.
I've seen Drew get burned a lot. Has had a few nice blocks though. I'd probably rate him as below average for a big. Nurk is clearly superior. Drew is fine for a limited minute backup; but exposed if he has to start.
Josh Hart is #2 among SGs in DRPM! Grant is #15 among SFs. Anfernee is 23rd among SGs. Dame is 60th among PGs. Nurk is 2nd among Cs.
Giving Jerami more shots just means he takes more of those ISO's that Ant usually takes. Maybe he's effective, maybe not, but my guess is his TS% probably drops like it did in Detroit. Right now, I like the way he's playing off Ant/Dame and the actions we put him in. They'll find ways to get him more shots if he continues to play this well. Ant currently has a bit more playmaking juice.
Have the Blazers ever had 3 players averaging 20 ppg before? Also- how often has it even happened in the NBA? Most recently the KD Warriors?
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/ One game brought Nurk down from +4.9 to +2.9 def RAPTOR, and moved Eubanks from -5.1 to -1.7 lol.
Agreed. Grant was starting to be known as a bit of a chucker in Detroit. I am appreciating his improved shot selection.
It definitely is. Doesn't include wins as part of the formula. I would like to see Dame and Ant get on a roll though.
