You know what I'm tired of? Suggestions that we up our language and speak more intelligently and civilized that are met with whining and pissing and moaning by the over-sensitive "Everything's PC now" crowd. Anyone asking anyone else to put in a little effort in how they dress their language is met with fierce resistance. I feel like the "everything is PC now" reply is a little like "Everyone is wearing pants now." Well, yes, we are... it's not daycare anymore. Grow. Up.
But that shouldn't mean we have to treat everyone with padded oven mits. ;o) There's a certain level of respect humans should show towards one another; however I get where Nate's coming from.
Seriously, for me this isn't a male/female thing. It's all about the level she's competing at and how it's relative to the NBA. Right now, she has a big advantage in height, strength, athleticism and skills relative to her current competition. She has developed her skill set (low post game) to exploit her physical advantages and dominate the physically overmatched competition. But, mover her up to the NBA, and she'd be physically overmatched by the taller, stronger more athletic players at that level - the hightest level in the world. Same thing happens to guys at all levels. They dominate in middle school, or high school, or college, but can't make the transition to the next level. A few years ago, when my son was in 8th grade, one of the teams we played had a kid that was 6'8" (and skinny as hell). He totally dominated the paint, because none of his opponents were taller than 6'. The next year, he made varsity as a freshman (because he was the tallest kid on the team), but after a month was demoted to JV becuase he didn't have the strength and athleticism, at 14, to compete against kids that were 17 and 18. The JV squad was a much better fit for him and let him devleop his game without having his confidence destroyed. Brittney Griner is the best female college basketball player I have seen, but there are also plenty of great college men players who never succeed in the NBA. It's a very elite group of athletes. She has narrowed the gap, but the gap still exists. Hell, the men's game in Europe is light years ahead of where it was just 20 years ago when the original (and only) Dream Team absolutely destroyed the comptition without even breaking a sweat. But, there are still tons of guys who are successful in Europe that would never make it in the NBA. So, no slight to her. She is an amazing athlete, but still not in that very top 1% of the 1% that actually make it to the NBA. BNM
