Again I am not doubting you guys, but I am still waiting for someone to give me a link, a quote, anything that suggests that McCollum actually plays PG........

He'll have more of an opportunity to pass in the pros. People were doubting Lillard's ability to play PG as well.

CJ and Lillard actually had similar ast% in their senior years. It's just their teams were so bad, they needed to score.

Anyone under 6-4 is automatically a PG, like Bayless.

But Lillard played PG in College. For 4 years.

My understanding is that McCollum always played
SG. Every high light I have seen there is a PG on the floor with him.

With Lillard you could actually see him playing well as a PG. Regardless of what some said about him. I have yet to see anything that shows CJ running an offense. We can't make this mistake again. IMO you are either a PG or you are not.

I don't agree. It's just a label. I don't like when people try pigeonholing players into specific roles because of the positions they play. Both CJ and Damian are scoring point guards. Damian is a better playmaker for sure, but I see no reason why CJ can't spot him 12 minutes.

CJ actually had a higher ast% than his backcourt mate in his junior year. (It was lower his senior year because he got hurt)

He wasn't a good back-up. He basically had one good game.

Maynor had a couple of redeeming traits last year

    1) He took pressure off Lillard
    2) He wasn't Nolan Smith

After that there's not much there to miss.

Are they? Damian is for sure. But until I see CJ actually play PG I am not convinced. Regardless we need another PG. You can't go a whole season thinking Damian will play 82 games.

If the Blazers can't replace Maynor's .016 WS/48 with a better option, they deserve to lose again.

So who do you want? Who can we get for the bi-annual?

Telfair will do the same thing for just about the same amount of money.

There's absolutely no reason to tie up money into signing a backup point before they fill their priorities first. (A center and a wing)

I agree completely. They had to wait... no doubt. I just wished Maynor had waited.

But enough of that. Time to move on.

Don't forget the Blazers' backup PGs sucked early last year on purpose. All part of the tanking. Maynor was acquired for our surprisingly viable playoff run.

An emergency PG is easy to find. I'm partial to Collison for BAE type money, although I think he deserves more than that. Telfair, as mentioned above, is a decent option. Too bad Tinsley re-upped. He would have been a good fit.

I'm not going to say that Maynor played exceptionally, but Lillard's game really stepped up after Maynor joined the team. I'm not sure how you quantify that.

I agree but I understand why we did what we did. We need to satisfy the center issue. Now if we suck it at the center acquisition; I'm gonna be pissed!

Well, I figure we've got the summer league to see how CJ handles point guard. After SL Neil can decide if he needs to address the hole at backup PG.

How many NBA games has CJ played. Ok then. You been wrong about backup PGs for a while now. If we dont get a decent Center this is complete fail.

Maybe I just don't understand what everyone is getting worked up about.

There are players that do the exact same thing Maynor does. If they want one they can go sign one after they finish their other priorities.

And when have I been wrong about back up PGs? I thought Smith and Price sucked....and they did. I think Maynor is average....and he's about average.

There was a reason the Thunder let him walk for basically nothing. After his injury he wasn't the same player athletically and his game was mediocre without any explosiveness.
