Serena Williams reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal of the year and defeated Kaia Kanepi 6-3, 6-3 Monday, keeping alive her hopes for a third straight US Open title. The top-seeded Williams lost in the fourth round of the Australian Open, the second round of the French Open and third round of Wimbledon. She said she felt the pressure of getting to the quarters of Flushing Meadows. Williams won her first 12 service points against Kanepi, a 50th-ranked player from Estonia.
