Listening to Joe, it seems clear that a Chauncey-type player is a player like the way Chauncey played: Talented, tough, gritty, high basketball IQ, maximizing your talent.
look up the Kentucky coaches interview 4 months ago about him....he swears the kid would've been a number one pick if he came back for a year and he says he can say that because he's coached 4 number one picks ...I don't link videos anymore but it's on youtube...
Yeah, I trust Calipari about as far as I can throw him. Also, if you look at the context, he said IF HE STAYED ANOTHER YEAR he COULD be that, so he was obviously trying to butter up the kid to get him to stay.
sure....I know nothing about the guy but it's ok if you don't value his opinion...he basically said the kid was ready if a team could develop him and would be the best of the best with just a year of college ball although he didn't say he asked him to stay at all. He said he didn't need to stay in school because basically...he's that good. Just high praise from someone who knows his game and said he's coachable and disciplined. I mean, the kid just got to the big dance and first day he's already a gym rat.
So you wanted to tank again next year and wade through ping pong balls again and hopefully get a top three pick and still possibly miss him?
Have you been around long enough to remember the name LaRue Martin? Blind faith and hope don't work for me - I prefer due diligence. And yes, I would have gritted my teeth and lived with another year of tanking. I sure as hell wouldn't have made the Grant deal. This team needs a complete overhaul (IMHO). You notice that Detroit took the pick we sent them for Grant and turned it into Duren? If the Blazers had done that, I would object to the Sharpe pick less - bringing in 2 projects would have mitigated the risk and demonstrated a clear plan. Cronin wants to show he can juggle and tightrope walk at the same time when he has yet to show he can do either.
This team fired the GM, most of his staff, the coach and the president quit....traded most of the core from last season and one who has been here for the whole Dame era....what part of overhauling did you miss out on? When is the last time we had a decent draft pick? We're much better now than we were going into last season. I remember LaRue Martin but he has zero to do with what's going on with the Blazers....Duren isn't a proven impact player yet either. That's the nature of drafting but Grant is a proven piece and a gold medal.. Olympian...just don't understand where you are finding depression in this offseason...we're getting better not worse and more importantly ..we have young talent for the future as well as impact players for next season. Joe and Schmitz know more about this draft than anybody you can dig up...don't fool yourself that they didn't exercise due diligence concerning this draft...Sharpe was Schmitz guy and Walker was Joe's..both good draft signings
J Walker will make the team. Watched a number of Buff games, for 6'9 he's a solid shooter from distance and is tough down low. He'll give G Brown a run for his money on making the team.
