Essentially a draft and stash. I just don't see him contributing this next season at all. Let him heal and grow up a bit. He can get reps in the G league come back for summer next year.
there would be if I could track you down...FAMS!! (is that how it's done? I'm not sure since I'm basically obsolete)
So you think a guy who only got drafted on what he'd done in highschool a year ago would drop 8-13 picks because he has an injury that is rarely if ever a recurring one with any residual effects? I get it that you're trying to keep a narrative going but let's try and be logical while trying to prove our points. I'd also like to point out to everyone that the same group of people who nabbed Jabari Walker with the penultimate pick in this draft are the same guys who took Sheadon with the seventh pick and acted like they'd won a chip in their draft room when they saw he'd dropped to them. We should also wait and see what's said in a week or week and a half before pronouncing his season dead.
Yeah, When they selected SS the whole room acted like they got their guy. Mike Schmitz is probably as connected as anyone in the league with regard to young talent.
Everyone says that but i'm telling ya'll....the Las Vegas Raiders just went through this with Mike Mayock. He was pretty decent at finding guys in later rounds that were useful but a train wreck at early picks. I'm very hopeful and optimistic with Sharpe. It just is not a sure thing Schmitz is always gonna hit. And in Mayocks case, he wasn't a draft guy ranking players anymore so the argument when he reached on someone was "they would have been ranked higher if he was still doing mock drafts." Usually was an excuse by fans to justify a reach. Obviously a smidge different because Schmitz isn't in full control. But, he was obviously hired for a reason.
good points. Mike has been in the trenches with respect to prospects and I would think he is well connected with evaluators of talent. We'll have to wait and see just what kind of player he'll become. Ive watched many of the summer league games and feel that if he hadn't got hurt he would have performed well after a half or so. He's made for summer league, as its an up and down game where guards and wings can razzle dazzel.
Where do you guys think Sharpe would go today if redrafted? Players move all up and down the draft boards in the weeks around the draft. A player being out with an injury for an unknown duration possibly into his first rookie season would fall a lot IMO. Somebody like Duren still has tons of potential and that is 6 spots after Sharpe but with zero injury concerns so its certainly possible him and a number of others would jump. It's not as if these other potential draft picks have no upside. Even if healthy Sharpe has a chance of being a bust. I'm hoping we get good news on Sharpe when re-evaluated and he can be 100% before camp. This is about as disappointing of a first few weeks of being a Blazer he could've had though.
Any news on when we will get something definitive on Sharpe's injury and how long until he's back? Also, the Chicken Little's in here. Yeesh.
He's young and has a good support system, he achieved his dream and this wont keep him from blossoming into a great player. The kid has that it factor too.
Jury is for sure still out on Sharpe, but it wasn't a reach to take him at 7 though. When swinging for home runs there are bound to be strike outs too. I don't mind that strategy. I will say Jay Bilas saw a Kentucky practice too and came away raving about Sharpe. Not sure why his workouts didn't go great for other teams but he wowed everyone here, including Dame. I don't think they take him if it's just Schmitz that liked him there.
I can't see why the Blazers still wouldn't want to try to take a flyer on him? They need a home run. He still might be one? Probably not this year. But still might be a steal?
