<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Dan Le:</div><div class="quote_post">Uhh Yao, has received most of his All-Star votes from paper ballots, so its not just a whole country voting for him...so much Jealously in this thread...</div> Really? How do you know this? And if you are refering to me with that jealousy statement im not jealous of anyone especially someone I've never met.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting BobbyEscobar:</div><div class="quote_post">Yao Ming gets the most votes because he has an entire country voting for him. When Shaq plays Yao he's not ineffective, he treats him just like he does every other center in the league.</div> I don't know about this year, but this was definitely not the case for the 2004 allstar game.. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In the closest race of this year?s voting, Houston?s Yao Ming (1,484,531) narrowly edged the Lakers? Shaquille O?Neal (1,453,286) for the West's starting center position. While O?Neal received more electronic votes from fans around the world, Yao defeated O?Neal by outpacing him on paper ballots that were distributed in-arena, at movie theatres and at retail stores where balloting was available in the United States and Canada.</div> http://www.nba.com/allstar2004/allstar_gam...ter_040129.html
I even know pornstars who like Yao but anyways. Yao hasn't been to bad in the last few games but he gets into too much foul trouble.
People who vote electronically are usually fans of the game. A non-fan wouldn't be browsing NBA.com for instance and happen upon the electronic ballots. They have paper-ballots all over the place, though. How many uninformed people voted in Yao Ming over Shaq at a movie theater or supermarket, I wonder? They need to tighten up All-star voting from fans. It shouldn't simply be a popularity contest. That's unfair to players who choose not to turn themselves into media whores and just play the game. Voting should be done electronically and only once per email address (or IP address). You won't have as many votes, but there'll be enough to make sure those who deserve to get in do.
The past couple of years the voting between Yao and Shaq has been close because most fans in the west voted for Shaq. Yao only beat Shaq through the chinese votes. This year most western votes went away from Shaq and to Yao, which is the reason that Yao was so dominant in the all star voting.
