I guarantee that Shaq would destroy Russel if they got to play each other in their primes. Not to take anything away from Russell.
Who can beat who isn't the issue, in judging the best centers ever we should be seeing who achieved the most, I say Wilt because he has tons of records, 4 MVPs, Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season, 2 Championships, had rules changed for him, and dominated the game. Russel has won 5 MVPs (3 in a row), 11 championships, All-Star game MVP, Olympic gold medalist, and innovated the way defense is played. Shaq has won 3 championships, one MVP, and Rookie of the Year, and dominated his era. Shaq is easily the least accomplished of the three and what they have done makes Shaqs "dominance" seem pitiful.
For everyone who says shaq is better than wilt, shaq who is one of the biggest braggers in the nba himself said that he is the second most dominant player of all time...you all know whos first.
Winning championships is a great accompishment, but i feel it can be overrated when judging a player greatness. A championship is more of a team accomplishment that an individual one. Russell didn't always beat Wilt, most of the time it was the CELTICS beating the WILTS TEAM. I was watching 5 reasons you can't blame Wilt for losing to Russell. They said in one of the nbe finals game 7's. Wilt only got the ball 2 times in the 4th quarter thanks to his teammates. Im not saying Russell doesn't deserve those championships. he's a great player also. I just don' t think Wilt should be blamed entirely for losing to Russells teams.
The Dream is by far my most favorite center. I think him in his prime vs. Shaq in his prime, would be a very tough matchup.
u can really compare shaq and russel cause bill was playing very WEAK competion except for wilt....bill is the thrid best center ever..hakeem is a good fourth..and # 1 and 2 go hand and hand with shaq and wilt
^^ Actually you can't compare any centers who play in entierly differnt eras like Wilt and Shaq... you'll never know how each one will do in each other's era. You can predict and assume, but never know. That's why these arugments are (in my mind) pointless.
